Plan of Attack for Upcoming Holidays

I know how miserable it can be studying during the holidays, so I am trying to avoid it as much as possible. I plan to sit for FAR before Thanksgiving. For my (hopefully) last one, REG, I am thinking about studying first 3 weeks in December and last 3 weeks or so of Jan with the hopes of taking it end of Jan/beginning Feb. I am being optimistic that taking a one week break won’t affect me too much. I did it for AUD since I took a 1-week vacation and it worked out, but then again I fear REG like the plague.

What’s everyone’s plan of attack for the end of the year? Do you think it’s crazy to take time off? Have any of you done it and been successful?

    BEC: 73, 81
    AUD: 85
    FAR: 71, 77
    REG: 74, 75...finally DONE! πŸ˜€

*This is my 2nd attempt at the CPA exam. For all of you who have failed this exam many times, given up on it, or taken a break like me, remember that it is still possible to finish what you started...failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently πŸ™‚

I should be lucky enough to be done with AUD before holidays but I just wanted to tell you – it's really smart of you to account for the holidays in your study plan!

I think taking 1 week off between studying shouldn't be an issues as long as you put in a lot of study time the first 3 weeks of studying. I actually just changed jobs and it's been a week since I touched my AUD material but I have 5-6 weeks left to study because I accounted for this transition. I do fear I forgot a lot of what I learned but I should be able to catch up… You could always schedule 30 min MCQs review during the week “off” or keep reviewing your notes, provided you take them.

    FAR: 81 (May 2013)
    BEC: 81 (July 2013)
    REG: 83 (August 2013)
    AUD: 82 (November 2013)
    California CPA since 1/30/14

For people that don't have expirations coming up, I'd say that taking some time off during the holidays is very important! I'm sitting for my hopefully-last test in October, but even if I don't pass it, I'm still going to take time off during the holidays. Holidays are family time…and our family sacrifices enough during these tests – I think that allowing them to enjoy the holidays with us is a necessary concession!

How many days and when will look different for everyone…but holidays have to be a priority. πŸ™‚

I'm just still hoping that I am DONE with this by holidays time!!

Amay- I think it's a good idea. I studied REG over the 2012 holidays and took a few days off. My schedule was similar with two weeks before the holidays and then I took the test at the beginning of February and passed. Do tons of MCQs and practice tests to mix all of the material in January and you should be fine. Good luck!

I schedule REG just right before Thanksgiving because I know I won't be able to concentrate during those days. By that time, I will also know about AUD and BEC but even in worst case scenario, I still won't touch any materials until December. I hope everyone will be able to leave some time off during holidays for family and friends especially for those who have kids.

I took 2 weeks off while studying for FAR. Wasn't for holidays, I just wanted to go to Six Flags and watch Netflix lol.

    - passed all 4 exams on my first try using Becker!

    Ethics: TBD

Yes, SOOo hoping to be done October 12th. But if I'm not, maybe I'll wait until after Christmas, since I can't take it until January anyway. I have the week off between Christmas and New Year's, so maybe I'll start studying then and try to do a retake at the end of January. Who knows. I'll have time to figure it out. But HOPEFULLY I'LL BE DONE. Gahhhhh!

    R - *77*(02/'13)-Becker & NINJA
    A - 71('11); *87*(04/'13)-Becker & NINJA
    F - *76*(08/'13)-Becker & NINJA - "server upgrade" survivor
    B - 60('11); *82*(10/'13) -Becker & NINA

    DONE, DONE, AND DONE.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts! I am feeling less guilty about taking time off. Honestly, I am feeling a bit drained so I am really looking forward to it, even though it seems so far away with 2 tests in between and all…
