tough_kittyMemberI think it really depends on a person and specific part of the exam…I have a few friends who used Becker and failed with a 72 or a 73. My guess is, they felt prepared but maybe they didn't cover one of the topics well enough or they thought they knew something but in fact they didn't, or the SIMS turned out to be completely insane (esp. for REG), so there are multiple factors involved.
I used Roger and passed 3 parts so far on my first try. I felt prepared enough to pass them all. However, after I took REG I felt very insecure about the SIMS…Fortunately, I passed but all 3 times I thought it may go either way – a 74 or a 75. There is no way to tell, since 1) some MCQ's are pre-tested, 2) all questions are weighted based on difficulty, 3) we don't know how they grade SIMS, 4) from what I recently discovered, they do grade on a curve…..so I'd say – make sure you understand all topics and if you get at least 80% on all major topics on your homework, then you should be fine.
FAR: 81 (May 2013)
BEC: 81 (July 2013)
REG: 83 (August 2013)
AUD: 82 (November 2013)

peetreeMemberI used Becker for all four parts and passed them on the first try. I supplemented with the Wiley Test bank for REG and used Jeff's Ninja notes and audio for all four exams though.
If you're scoring between 80-90 on your practice tests and you're not memorizing the answers, you're going to be fine.
FAR 02/21/13 - 95
REG 07/02/13 - 87
AUD 08/02/13 - 94

But there's also lots of people, like those who have posted in this thread, who used Becker, followed all the steps, and passed…and many others who used Becker, didn't follow all the steps, and passed.
The challenge with the CPA exams is that there's no “yellow brick road” that is certain to end in success. I use Wiley. I'm not a genius, I study about 50 hours max for an exam, spend about $50/exam, and I've passed 3 so far on the first try. Others are geniuses, use the most expensive curriculum, study ridiculous amounts, and fail. Why? Well, that's the mystery of the CPA exam.
So, if you're using Becker, your best bet is to follow to a “T” every piece of advice they give, and learn in detail everything that's in their materials. Will that guarantee you a pass? No, but it'll give you a pretty good shot at it. The more you learn, the more you know, which means the more questions you'll have a shot at, not to mention the more you'll know for your career. Becker has the information required to pass the average exam…but there's definitely a luck factor, and it's pretty much impossible to know all the material in the Becker materials (or any other review course), so at the end of the day, all you can do is your best. And hope you get a test which makes you best good enough.
