I would like to try and pass another one during or right after busy season (would probably take it in April at some point). I have 1 year of tax experience and 3 in audit, if that helps. Any suggestions? I just passed BEC on my first try, using Becker, with only 4 weeks of studying.

    Thanks!

@cake – I studied for FAR in 5/6 weeks and passed with a 79. I studied about 3-4 hours a day on average (1 at lunch and 2-3 at night after work) and on the weekends I put in a full day on both Saturday and Sunday (aimed for 8 hours or so). I think it is definitely doable if you are going to make the effort. goodluck!!

@Cake – I am using Becker also. Which state did you take the exam in and do you think Becker is sufficent for passing? Reason I am asking is because a lot of people have stated that Becker does not do a good job for BEC and a lot of questions came out of left field… What this your experience?

    Thanks

@PJ I took it in Louisiana, To be honest, I felt like I studied tons of topics that were never even touched on during the exam. Not sure how common that is. I don't think that there was anything on the exam that I hadn't seen during my studies. I listened to all the lectures once, skimmed over the textbook some, and worked over all of the MCQs countless times.

ok great thanks. Many people have had very different experiences, so I am just trying to get a feel for what the AICPA is up to with this exam…

Definitely FAR. FAR kinda builds the foundation, and it will be much easier for you to study AUD and REG after that. I know it helped me a lot. I took it in this order – FAR, AUD, REG, BEC.

    AUD: Pass
    BEC: Pass
    FAR: Pass
    REG: Pass - I'm DONE!

Do you think 5-6 weeks is sufficient enough time to study for FAR? About 2-3 hours per weekday and 5-8 hours on the weekend

Definitely. From what I've seen most recommend around 120 hours of studying for FAR, so your plan looks good.
