    I know this is a long shot, but is there anyone in northern Oregon looking for a study group?

    I’m studying for the following:

    * FAR in August

    * REG early October

    * BEC on November 1st.

    Just curious – what does one accomplish from an in-person study group? I've seen others post this as well.

    To me – that would be distracting and there would be too much “small talk” … cutting study time.

    You know Jeff, that's a great question! In a lot of ways, I agree with you.

    However, it is also accountability to “show up”. You have the option to press snooze, but someone is waiting, and you can't let them down, so you go and have “mandated study time/review” or else they text you. That person is doing the same thing as you.

    I've gone to a coffee shop with my husband while he was studying and I'll bring a book/project and generally “look busy”. If we want to say something, it has to be important enough to “interrupt” each other's concentration. A good study buddy is there as a sounding board too, but this forum is great for that.

    If one were in a class, a weekly study gathering might be a good way to quiz each other and review. Linguistic learners can benefit a ton by summarizing material out loud and/or explaining topics to a friend.

    This might seem kind of strange, but it's just a suggestion that might help. I am part of a CPA online study group. Totally informal. I just friended a few people from this Forum on Facebook and we communicate that way. Someone will post a status update, “Where are my study buddies?” in the morning and night and I feel like I have to be accountable!

    I know it's odd. It's just an idea and it has worked for me. I have been studying every single night! Plus, if I start to freak out, I have a sounding board.

    REG - 80 (Becker only)
    BEC - 76 (Becker only)
    AUD - 71, 76 (Becker only)
    FAR - 65, 74, 81! (Becker, Wiley Test Bank, Ninja notes & Audio)

    CPA Class of 2012 🙂
