I’m looking for any suggestions, ideas, extra materials, etc that I can get. I have been out of college since 2001, thus no study habits left in my body at all. I started studying in Jan 2010, took REG, and passed on my first time with a 76. It was a great feeling. Next up, FAR…2 years later I have failed every single part at least once. I failed FAR 3 times. End result was I lost my REG score last year. I used Becker until my license ran out. I’ve purchased all the NINJA notes. I also use Wiley Test Bank now and CPA Excel. Just got my AUD score last night….52. Any suggestions on study habits? I haven’t been able to get 80s or above on my practice questions, EVER. But I take the exams hopeful I might get lucky. I try to put in 3-4 hours a night, but it’s tough during a tax accountant’s busy season. I write the NINJA notes at least once, and I use them as my “study bible”. Please any help or insight anyone can provide would be must appreciated.

How can you say you haven't found what works for you if you passed your first exam the first time you took it? You were probably most intense back in 2010 with all that newbie fear and adrenaline. Then it sounds like you started to question yourself, how long you'd been out of school, and how busy your schedule was/is and lost the intensity.

People with all types of scheduled slay this beast, some who have been out of school a lot longer than 13 years. But they make the seemingly simple decision that whatever it takes, they will pass all 4. And for some of us there are bumps along the way. It's ok the only way to fail is to stop trying!

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

What worked for me is that I treat passing the exam like my job. I do whatever I need to not to fail at work so that's what I've what I've kept in mind since December when I started studying for my first exam. My employer paid for my Becker…they are fabulous, especially since it's not a CPA firm and a CPA is not a job requirement for me…and so I don't want to let them down by not doing whatever I have to to succeed.

For me it's been even longer since I had to study for anything…I graduated in 1993. It was a huge change but I just treated it like I was putting in overtime at work….meaning there is no excuse you can use to get out of it (the studying). Luckily, it turns out the the Becker study method works for me (although the lectures do tend to put me to sleep).

    FAR - 93 (YAY!!!!)
    REG - 93 (Double YAY!)
    BEC - 87 (Whew!)
    AUD - 96 (DONE!!!!!)
