Is it stupid to get into a relationship while working long hours and weekends in accounting AND studying for the cpa exam?

What if you really liked them?

This would be a tough time to establish a relationship, yes, but that doesn't necessarily mean it would be stupid. Would depend somewhat on whether you think the “target” is someone that would be understanding of your limited schedule or not. Also depends on how much time you think you can have free to devote to a relationship. For example, if you usually take off most of one day a week (which I'm a fan of), then if this person would be fine with spending that day with you and just having a few texts the rest of the week, that might work…or if this person was happy to grab dinner with you after work every day just as a quick bite to eat (not a formal dinner), that might work…etc. Starting a relationship right now would allow you to see how flexible s/he is and how patient, but probably wouldn't allow for much deep connecting for awhile.

However, if this is someone worth the fight and effort, then there's no harm in giving it a shot.

I wouldn't deliberately SEEK a relationship right now but if someone came into your life why wouldn't you pursue it? People have families, children, houses while working long hours and studying for the exams, surely dating could be fit in.

Just be very upfront with him/her that you have a lot of conflicting priorities but it can be done.

Also keep in mind that if you can't devote some time to him/her regularly, it's not fair on that other person. So it's going to require extra work on your part to make it work.

I will say this though, as someone who has been, happily, married for nearly 6 years, the CPA exam is a MAJOR source of stress between my wife and I. She supports me and understands what I'm going through but we still have little fights as a direct result of the exam. My only real advice is that despite a really busy schedule, it's on you to make time for the other person.

There's never a perfect time. When I met my now fiance I was still in school full time and working. I decided our relationship was important enough to take time away from some other things. I stopped my volunteer work for about six months, and got my first a- of college, but it was 100% worth it and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Life is a balance and sometimes one thing takes priority over another, but you have to evaluate your priorities. If this is the person you are meant to be with it may be worth allocating time away for them, but you have to figure that out for yourself.

I personally would not recommend making any decisions that involve emottions while going through this, the exam messes with you on its own and possible arguments and fights that you can prevent would be healthier for this process. Not saying you will be arguing if you pursue it but there is a good chance. You have a long way, your exam is more important now. Also almost nobody outside the field understands what we go through, sometimes even non candidates in the field fail to understand. My 2 cents, delay it.

I am with mla1169 110%. I was dating my boyfriend during my last 2 exams and it worked out. I only saw him a couple of times per week but he was very understanding and knew that my schedule wouldn't last forever.

Now, I see him almost daily and we are closer than ever. But if he wasn't understanding of my committment to studying, then it wouldn't have worked.

The only relationship you should be having is with either Becker, Roger, Gleim, or Ninja. Remember it's a Love Hate type of relationship with lots of stress and sleepless night. It's all fun and merry at the beginning, but as you get further into the relationship you will be looking for a divorce near completion of your exams.

berrygoose, the only way you can get into a relationship if its the other person is as busy as you are. Someone who is also studying for the CPA exam would be ideal. You guys can get together at least once per week to release stress (sexy time). I nominate Skynet as your future companion until at least you are done with the exam.

this exam can seriously suck it. I feel like id be in two relationships if I decide to pursue it haha

some of you guys mentioned that if i did pursue it, i wouldn't be able to connect with that person on a deep deep level. at least not yet. i feel like id risk losing him to someone who would be able to do that..

those of you that are working and studying..how do you guys stay “IN” with all the current events of the world? Like i'd have lunch with some of my coworkers and they would talk about the latest movie releases and such and i would have no clue as to what theyre talking most of the time because ive had my nose buried in my exam books for the past month.. hahah
