No lunch break at my firm…

Does anyone work at a place where no one takes a lunch break? At my firm everyone just sits at their computer and eats while they work. I’d love to be able to sit in the kitchen and review note cards for 1/2 hour during lunch but I’m hesitant to buck the system and also to now change what I’ve been doing for the last year and a half. My husband gets mad about this and says this is illegal. I’m sure it’s not illegal if everyone is doing it by choice but I’m finding this frustrating. I have two kids to get through homework/sports/dinner after I get home from work and so my study time is really limited. I have to clock in my time at work so I’d now have to put in a nonbillable/lunch time. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

That was the way it was at my last job. I was not studying then but I did work with people who smoked and would take frequent smoke breaks. Are there people that leave to smoke? What about studying then? Not sure the environment you work in but I would take a small break when the rest of the people I was working with went out and smoked.

Also, is there a way to have MC up on your screen so every so often you can answer a question or have NINJA notes up so every so often you can read a few pages?

My department is like this for the most part. I started once a week taking 30 min, if anyone asked I had an errand, I would go to Starbucks ect. Then after a few weeks it became twice a week. I still follow the norm and eat at my desk 2/3 times a week but this is still free time I don't always work sometimes I do personal stuff, emails, bills ect.

Also do you get to leave early if you work through lunch? If not don't do it but easy into leaving during lunch, not 5 days a week right away. also have reasons I'm take a walk, I'm getting a coffee I'm running an errand. Only offer this info asked.

    F - 76!!!
    R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!

    Finally done!

This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!

Legally they have to offer a 30 minute break if you work more than 6 hours, but offering it and encouraging you to take it are two seperate things, and if the culture in your office is to work through lunch it is what it is. You could always study at your desk for that half hour.

My wiley books accompanied me to many a cheer practice, football game and girl scout meetings!

I'm lucky. My previous supervisor discouraged taking a lunch. Same company, but new supervisor, now encourages leaving your desk, office, building etc. to ‘get away and refresh'.

However, I just stay at my desk like I always have, and study in my office.

When I'm not busy at work, I have A71 open along with Ninja notes on my computer and just review.

I know what you are talking about. We don't have a “lunchroom” or anywhere to go other than our desk. It's assumed that if you are at your desk (even if you are off the clock) that you are available to work. So when the admin staff go to lunch we are expected to answer the phone and deal with whoever walks in.

Pretty annoying when I'm trying to get in a solid study hour. I would leave the office for lunch except that it cuts into my study time by the time I go out, get something to eat and come back.

When the weather gets nicer I will probably go for a run during lunch, if I'm going to lose a lunch study hour, then I may as well get some exercise in.

I'm supposed to be moving into my own office next month and I'll probably feel better about using the app on my Kindle for a quick review during lunch once that happens. I work in a very open space right now and my computer monitors are visible to anyone in my office. I think for now I'll have to keep limiting my study times to 4 a.m. and weekends. I guess I'm so worried I didn't pass REG I'm trying to come up with more study time – and that's just not happening. Thanks for the input.

NINJA audio is the sneaky way to study without people knowing it 🙂

@ Jeff I'm not sure I could have that on and concentrate on what I'm doing while at work but it might be worth a try. I'm sort of desperate for more study time. I was planning on ordering Ninja for AUD this weekend. Thanks! Congrats on your new addition. 🙂
