NINJA's, Wiley's, and Becker's….oh my! - Page 2

Okay, i know the title is a bit of a stretch and is a bit cheesy, but I wasn’t sure how to title it.

I want to get some opinions.

I used Becker to take AUD the end of May 2013 before the clarity project and I did the videos, read the text, did the questions, the whole kitten caboodle. I ended up not passing….I was close, but didn’t pass. For a number of reasons I didn’t get back to the CPA exam until only recently, but I am ready to go whole hog on this bad boy! WAIT! Becker in his infinite wisdom has chosen to expire my license. AWESOME! (sarcasm).

So My question is this. I have the Becker texts which are pre-June 2013 versions which seem to be rather detailed which I like. I also really like the NINJA audio, and then WTB seems to be the way to go as far as MCQ’s and SIMS although I wish the mobile app would update with the new 2014 questions.

The problem with the Becker videos even if I still had access to them is that they seem to go on FOOORRREEEVVVEEERRRR and are fairly boring. Don’t get me wrong, I love accounting, but their delivery is lacking. I wish there was something more engaging, I have read about Rogers on here, what exactly is different between Rogers and Becker videos?

So it all comes down to this, has anyone used the Becker Texts with NINJA Audio, WTB and some other video provider? OR is there a “better way?”

ANY advice here would be greatly appreciated. And yes, I know if I retake AUD (which hopefully I won’t have to, I retook it earlier this month) then obviously the pre-calification project texts wouldn’t cut it.

Has anyone used Becker Texts in concert with NINJA Audio and WTB? How about year-old Becker Texts?

I passed AUD without watching videos. Just jumped straight to the questions and if there was something I needed clarification on or wanted to expand my notes on, I clicked on the textbook link for Becker and saw the e-book markings signaling what was most important. I also used the NINJA notes which I rewrote the week before my exam.

    BEC: 73, 81
    AUD: 85
    FAR: 71, 77
    REG: 74, 75...finally DONE! 😀

*This is my 2nd attempt at the CPA exam. For all of you who have failed this exam many times, given up on it, or taken a break like me, remember that it is still possible to finish what you started...failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently 🙂

@CPAMommyof3 – Thanks for your input, I think your method sounds like the way to go…..videos just don't seem to work for me. I will be eager to see how FAR turns out with this method.

@Amay – Do you feel that since your AUD was a retake that maybe you still gained benefit from videos or another method you used before your first take? Or did you use the same method you described both times?

EVERYONE – I actually realized my Becker texts are 2012 versions. Does anyone know if that would be still okay as long as I don't use them if I have to retake AUD?

I'm thinking it sounds like Becker Text, WTB with the text feature, NINJA Audio (religiously!), and rewrites of NINJA notes.

I also have 2012 Becker flashcards, does anyone know if those would still be okay to use as well? I don't particularly have a problem with just trashing the Becker texts and flashcards, but if they are still heavily relevant, then I don't want to just act like they aren't there…..ya know?

I passed AUD without watching videos (although I did watch a few on YouTube early on, only to figure out later that some of the material was outdated). I have the Wiley review books.

Sometimes I do better with an instructor explaining things to me on the whiteboard, but since this is almost all review, rather than being new material, the book has been enough for the most part. I do like having the NINJA materials as a supplement for FAR, however, since Jeff has good tricks for helping me remember certain things. But I did AUD only with the books and whatever I found online for free (including some NINJA stuff). I had also just finished 2 audit classes.

I think, no matter which materials you use, practicing the MCQs is vital, since it gets you in the right frame of mind thinking about how they word the questions and answers. You can practice reading carefully and processing what they're asking for.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)
