First, I just wanted to say that I am so thankful that I stumbled upon this site. A lot of encouraging people on here going through the same thing I am and your words have been very helpful. I am an MPAcc student/graduate assistant (first semester) and currently doing Becker fast pace course b/c it is part of my school requirements. I am studying for the BEC portion currently and am working on B2. My school requires we complete 90% of the homework to pass the course (pass/fail non credit) so I have been doing that mainly. I am averaging between 55-60% on my first run of the homework. I think the very first section of B1 I even got 46%. I have always had good grades so I am not used to this and trying not to freak out. I do not use the book at all, even though I feel I retain very little from the lectures. Then after the first run through I go back and try to study what I missed but when you miss that many it is a little overwhelming. I guess I would like to ask two questions. First, is that low of a percentage on your first run through normal? If yes (or no) what percentages do you guys usually get right? Second, how did you approach going back over the text after you had already been through it. I guess it just seems overwhelming because I miss so many from all over the place and I feel like I might as well just reread the entire thing. Any advice would be much appreciated. Doing becker, taking a full course load, on top of my hours working as a GA I just want to make sure I am maximizing my time. Thank y’all!

I'm a big fan of the book for review courses…but especially if you're retaining very little from the lectures, I would strongly recommend reading the sections in the book. Maybe try for the next section skipping the lectures and reading the book, then seeing if you get better scores from reading the book or watching the lectures.

As for the scores…I don't use Becker, so don't know. I used Wiley and would usually score higher than that on my first time through the questions, but they were Wiley questions not Becker, and I wasn't also in school at the same time!

Becker definitely has some difficult questions for you. So getting scores like that is not uncommon, especially for your first time through it. I usually score in the low 60's or maybe 50's first time through a section, unless for some god knows reason, I just understood that section very well. But I try to not scare myself because the more you take, the more you learn on the reasons why you got them wrong. It will help you understand the problem better and help you to answer future questions. Don't just answer a question and move on, if you got it wrong try and see why you got it wrong and why is the right answer correct. Also, if you get the answer right, try to make see if you can understand why all the others are wrong. This is where I get most of the meat and potatoes from studying. But I do make sure I go through all of the videos from Becker at least once. They do provide you with some additional information that's not found in the book. Hope your studies go well! Good luck on BEC!
