I am 45 years old, graduate in 1993 with a BS in Accounting, but became a stay at home mom for 15 years. I am now divorced and have been back in the work force as an accountant for a large corporation, and I am now back into studying for the CPA exam, which I had postponed all these years. I would like to pass this test and get into the public accounting field.

I bought Yaeger’s FAR and the Ninja notes for FAR. I can use some encouragement, as I keep wondering if I will ever be able to get over this hurdle.

Is there anyone else with a similar background? Has anyone taken the exam this late in their life? I refuse to consider myself old, but I’d love to have some encouragement.

You are so not alone! I graduated from college in 2007 and finally got licensed in 2013. I'll be 45 in November. Age is just another number and the only one that counts is your license number.

I am turning 44 next month.

So we're all good because the age limit for CPA tests is 72. [we're in A71 Forum, right?] LOL

    P.S.

Ms. SJAccountant, consider yourself blessed being in the right field of work. I am having hard time finding a job in line with accounting because my 15-year accounting/banking experience was outside the US. Lack of experience in Accounting and IT skills is my very drawback so I need my CPA license so bad.

Good luck to all of us!

Thank you so much for your quick responses! I feel like I've been mentally blocked and I have been resisting studying. I really need to get myself together and believe I can do this. I have the Ninja notes and everything I need. I also struggle with being tired because I work full time and my time is limited, as I also have to help my sons with school. I need to get a handle on my time management. I welcome any suggestions to help me get organized so I can maximize my study time. Thank you again! I am already feeling encouraged.

You are on the right track, path will be tough, but achievable.

Come up with a study plan, depending on if you are a morning person or night person. Break down the cpa exam study process and the testing prcoess in pieces, small bites.

Study 1 hr in the morning, 1 hr at lunch and 1 in the evening/ night. If you look at the CPA as a whole, you will get scared and will want to quit. Take the 1st part and concentrate only on that part, till you pass that part. D'ont jump around from parts to parts.

Check out some demos of the review course online and see which one fits your study style etc.

I wish you the best and let me know if you have any questions or concerns
