I just received the Yaeger CPA review and need a study schedule….I work full time and I am required to stay late at the end of every month. How much time should I allow for each section( Months, hrs per week). I graduated about 2 yrs ago but I haven’t taken an accounting class in over 3 yrs( I was finishing electives). To add on top of that I haven’t been able to find a job in a firm or in an accounting dept, so no hands on exp for me. Please help I need to pass so I can get into a job that I want and start my career. Thanks

    vesposito,

The time requirements vary by section. Also, each person studies a little different. I am a fan of the total cram and then purge, personally.

As a general (very general) guideline, you should be studying for around 15-20 hours a week for around 7-8 weeks. Most sections require around 100 study hours plus review. Once again, that is a ver general guideline. Some people study a lot more and some people study quite a bit less (depending on experience, education, grasp, etc).

Which section will you be studying for first?

I was thinking about doing FAR, REG, AUD,and last BEC. I know it all depends on the personand the situation. I was just trying to get some feedback so I can make a sch and stick to it. I was going to do 3 months for FAr and REG and then 2 months for BEC and AUD.

Great plan. Get the hardest ones out of the way first. If you are going to study for three months be sure to do frequent reviews of the material you've already covered. Three months can be quite a long time to remember information. Personally, I'd try to do more studying in a little less time (maybe two months and just put in more hours per study session).

With three months to study, I'd recommend 2 hours per day on week days and 3 or 4 hours on either Saturday or Sunday. Take the other weekend day off and go have some fun. That way you are studying for around 20 hours per week. You might find that you are prepared a lot earlier than you expect.

I don't really know how Yaeger is structured, but most study materials usually break the sections into weeks. I used a seven week plan that I usually accelerated into 3 to 4 weeks. Since you are giving yourself 3 months, try to complete one session per week and spend the rest of the time working out MC questions, reviewing past material, and making/reviewing flashcards (flashcards were very helpful for me).

    Good luck!

Vesposito, I in the the exact same boat. I graduate 2 years ago and have not found an accounting job. I received my Yaeger study materials about a week ago and I am taking FAR first, the beginning of July. I have a fulltime job, 2 toddlers and coach a softball team so I feel your pain. This is my plan…

I study 2 hours every night, after I get home cook, spend time with my family and usually about 8 – 8:30 I start studying. If I am not tired I will study longer than 2 hours.

If you look at the table of contents it divides the study program for FAR into 14 sections (F1 – F14) And there are 14 dvds one for each section.

I spend 3 days on each dvd. If you notice on the outline the dvd usually lasts about 3.5 hrs so that gives me 2.5 hours during that 3 days to take notes.

I take notes by making flashcards. I then take the flashcards with me to work, dr visits, etc. I personally study well with flashcards and figure it will save me some time.

I figure it will take me 42 days to get through all of the information. I will spend 2 weeks reviewing and then 2 weeks doing any many MCQs as possible. The last month I will probably spend 3 – 4 hours per night studying.

I feel like this is working for me because I have been out of college for so long and do not have any exposure to accounting in the job. Also I have found that I have learned so much more with the Yaeger than I did in college.

Good luck and keep in touch, it looks like we are on the same path.

Bama— I am making my sch this weekend and starting on monday to study. So far it looks like I will be following somtething very similar to your plan. I feel like if i don't have an actual schedule where I can allow some relax time/ boyfriend/family time (like you) and then a separate time for studying; I just won't be able to do it. My attention span is very short, when I use to take day classes I got As and Bs in all my accounting classes however when I started working full-time and took night classes my grades dropped to Cs. After 40 mins I was just done with anything that had to do with Accounting esp after a 9 hour work day. So I really need to have a written out plan where I look at that calendar and say OK time to study everyone leave me alone. But i will def let you know how everything goes.

I plan to purchase Yaeger as well. I am trying to figure out an order to go in. I was told that the best order is FAR, AUD, BEC, REG. Any suggestions? I am going to be studying full time and trying to pass all four in 6 months. I have decided to only study on week days and have the weekends free. Not sure if this will work either. Any suggestions?

    FAR-July, AUD-August, BEC-October, REG-Novemeber
