Need Help!

    I am sooo stressed out and really need help I took FAR in Nov and did not pass. It was my first CPA exam. I hated studying for it and never really liked it when I was doing my undergrad (I have a B.S. in Accounting). so now I am studying for both FAR and AUD at the same time so that I do not feel soo sick of one subject. I am thinking about taking AUD in the beginning of Feb and FAR in the end of Feb. Does anyone have any suggestions for me or recommendations?? Is it bad that I am studying for both at the same time. I am feeling very unmotivated right now. I have a full time job and have 2 young kids (5 and 2 years old). I wake up every morning at 5:45 and start my day and can not study until I put the kids to bed at around 7:30 or 8. I usually study 2.5 to 3 hours at night.

    I study by reading each section (I am doing Becker) and then do the MCQ. I usually write the notes when I do the questions. I do that for the whole chapter then review all of my notes and redo the MCQ, supplemental questions, and simulations. It is just taking so long to finish and so easy to get distracted.

    I just need some motivation……Help Please!!

    You can do this! It is definitely not easy and can seem truly impossible at times, but it can be done!!

    Did you check out this thread? –

    There are loads of great motivational videos and songs on it. These videos have helped me and others in the past.

    Don't let the difficulties get you down!

    Can you take FAR first? I think that since it would be more familiar to you (since you already took it in November) it may be better to try to get it done before AUD. It sounds like you have a busy schedule. Can you take AUD next window? If so, then maybe you can devote the next few weeks to FAR and take that at the end of Feb. and take AUD in April…

    I had a similar experience last year. I went for REG and failed with 68. Then started a new section immediately and took that in the next window. Failed that too.Every window I took 2 sections. Eventually I passed 2 sections and almost the 3rd one (failed with 74). It is a big commitment.You can do it! I suggest studding for one section at the time, give 100% of your time to one section and then start on a new one.

    Two suggestions: first if you haven't already booked the exams take FAR at the beginning of Februrary insteads of the end since more of it is fresh in your mind now.

    Second: Whats the rush? You've got a full plate with 2 kids. Give yourself more time. I think its a lot of pressure to take two in the same window, much less the same MONTH now that January is better than half over. I also had a very full plate (work f/t, also have a part time job and was in school for my masters, have a 12 and 18 year old). The two times I tried to take two exams in the same window I passed one and failed one. The two windows I took one exam each, I passed.

    oh one more thing about the studying in your situation (especially if your commute to work is a decent length) either record yourself speaking your notes or get the wiley focus notes to listen to in the car, and even while you're doing housework and watching the kids. I always thought that even just having it as background noise helped a smidge. Had the ipod going with Anita Feller while I vacuumed and did laundry and even fell asleep listening to the notes at night hoping subliminally some of them would sink in. How romantic is THAT, my husband would ask “Is Anita joining us again tonight?”.

    He was glad to kick her out.

    Thanks for the advice everyone, I guess I do need to finish FAR first since I started it first,

    @mla1169
    –yesterday I had a big argument with my husband, who really wants to support me but he keeps pushing me, he keeps telling me are you going to pass next time?? give me a specific date when you are going to be done with the CPA…. He is stressing me out so much, I asked him not to tell me or ask me anything about my CPA exam. So, yes I do not have to rush myself, I will plan to take FAR towards the middle of Feb and then we'll see. I will definitely use your tips 🙂

    @Acct
    –those motivational videos sure are helpful, I liked them…thank you.

    @Lady in red–I can see how trying to take 2 exams in one window could be hard, I think it might be easy if it is not the first try for both of them…

    I guess I will try to Far first and then I will think about the other ones 🙂
