Nail the Videos?

    Hi guys(gals),

First timer here so bear with me. I am doing my research on which study courses/programs to follow and stumbled across the Ninja program. Up to this point everything looks that part and sounds promising. However, just a bit of confusion. The first step of the program is to “Nail the Videos.” After searching the Ninja Store, I am led to wonder, “What videos?” I can’t seem to find them anywhere. Could one of my fellow future CPAs point me in the right direction please?

    Thanks,

    Dave

    AUD-74,75(8/13)
    REG-76(5/13)
    BEC-77(12/13)
    FAR-69(didn't study),73,84(9/14)

The videos of whatever CPA Exam review course you are using. The NINJA materials are supplements.

    AUD - 99 (7/31/12)
    FAR - 90 (8/29/12)
    REG - 10/2012
    BEC - 10-11/2012

Yes, the ninja materials are strictly supplements. Jeff has great ninja notes, audio and a flash card program. He also sells the wiley test bank here at a great price. I believe his notes/audio correspond with the wiley books but they work with whatever review course you choose to go with. He has basically put the information you need to know in a concise format that is easy to understand.

Thanks! I plan on starting with the FAR exam. Which set of videos did everyone find to be the most helpful?

    AUD-74,75(8/13)
    REG-76(5/13)
    BEC-77(12/13)
    FAR-69(didn't study),73,84(9/14)

Best thing to do would be to check out the demos from some of the courses. They each have their own teaching style.

Becker is the best. Make the investment in yourself.

If you have a job, your employer might pay for a review course.

    AUD - 99 (7/31/12)
    FAR - 90 (8/29/12)
    REG - 10/2012
    BEC - 10-11/2012

I swear by Becker but it all depends on your learning style. Basically, the instructors go through the textbook with you, explain the material, show you what to highlight and make notes on, etc. From my experience, the Becker material has been extremely accurate to the type of material I've encountered on my exams.

    BEC - 90 PASSED
    FAR - 84 PASSED
    AUD - 93 PASSED
    REG - 84 PASSED

    I DID IT!!!!

    Using Becker Self-Study

I'd say go with the Becker videos. I've been through all the AUD sections and I'm about 1/3 of the way through FAR videos. The two guys they have on there are nowhere near dull and they provide a solid amount of infomration to help you understand everything. I've liked it so far and have not been dreading studying like I thought I would

I'm in the minority here, but I really preferred CPAExcel to Becker. With CPAExcel there is more variation in the videos. Some are awesome and some are far from, but their organization was far more effective for me. Bearing in mind that I took a lot of notes and read the textbook while on each lesson. Becker's follow along and highlight approach just didn't work for me at all. Like bnrhilton suggested, check out the demos and try to get an idea of what will work better for you. I will say, though, if you decide to go with CPAExcel, invest in an additional test bank (Wiley or other) for BEC at the very least.

    AUD-April 2012-CPAExcel only-86
    BEC-April 2012-CPAExcel w/ additional practice questions from Becker-91
    REG-May 2012-Becker primarily w/ practice questions from CPAExcel-78
    FAR-July 2012-CPAExcel primarily w/ Becker supplements-81

Hi Markbull, good choice starting out with FAR first! Getting that out of the way really helps boost confidence for the other three. I've never used Becker, so I can't recommend their videos either way, but I have used CPAExcel and Roger CPA review. They are both good, but if you like to feel like you are going to class where a teacher presents on a white board and is very memorably goofy (in a good way), try Roger.

CPAexcel's organization is different, so it just depends on what you are motivated spend hundreds of hours studying. Definitely try the demos, and use the most up to date materials!

Supplementing with NINJA audio is a great idea too… I love listening to those in the car or while exercising. Good luck with your studies!

FYI, Roger now has a “bookmark” feature on the videos… so useful!
