I have 3 Weeks and 1 Day until my FAR re-take – Oct 14. If I pass, I will be finished. If I fail, I will lose AUD and go back to being half way there. As I’ve mentioned on other threads, I am in the middle of another series of 4 iron infusions that wreck havoc on my body. It is extremely hard to focus, concentrate and retain info. I feel like I have a new bout of the flu after every session and it’s awful to put it mildly. I had the second in the series yesterday with the next two on 2/27 and 10/4. I am way behind in my preparation for FAR and I’m feeling a bit defeated.

I am considering calling the hematologist and telling him I won’t take the next two treatments or at least not the last one. This should give enough time for my body to adjust and the brain fog to clear and hopefully give me a fighting chance to study for FAR. We are trying to get my levels up enough to deal with surgery on Oct 16 so it is a chancy thing. I feel like if I do one more, my levels will be on solid ground but time is running out for FAR…

So, I have come to the dilemma of putting my health first or having a fighting chance for FAR and being done!

I know it should be easy to say health first…but I’m seriously tired of these exams…and the thought of re-taking AUD scares me a whole lot!

(PS: It’s not a life or death thing, at the very worst they would postpone my surgery for a few more months…but that causes a whole different set of issues. I won’t feel like a human again until after the surgery so I’m not super excited about postponing it either.)

Any words of wisdom from the NINJA voices of reason??

Could you re-schedule the surgery just a bit later – say 2 weeks, so that you could get those final iron shots post-FAR?

I know how long you've fought with the CPA, and I know how much it would suck to fail or have to delay FAR. But like everyone else, I'd also agree that health is very important! Reading the thread title, my thought was, “If you ruin your health in order to be a CPA, then you won't be able to live long enough to enjoy being a CPA”…but, if you can skip the iron and *not* have any lasting ill effects on your health, then in all honesty, if I was you, I'd tell the docs to hang on till I took FAR. Cause as much as I'd like to think I'd be good and healthy…I know I wouldn't be. 😛 Don't do anything that will still have effects in a year or in ten years, but if it's a matter of having to wait another month to have the surgery, then honestly, I'd go for FAR and worry about iron levels and surgery afterwards.

Just do your best in the FAR. Last time you got 73. It is the matter of luck now. Focus your study on the weak spot.

    >> I will have plenty of time for the class when I PASS the exam, right?? <<

Yes, you will. The class goes on after Oct. 14 and if you get behind in order to devote your time to studying FAR, you can catch up after FAR is done forever.

Knowing that someone has to make this choice makes the POCA in me want to come out! But your health is more important than ANYTHING. I know what IV iron can do to you, because I had the same reaction to it. Maybe you need to get mad!

Kricket: What is a POCA? I'm almost afraid to ask… =) Yes, I get angry…and then I fall asleep for about 3 hours. I'm going to get through it somehow someway…Thanks for the support!

Thanks everyone. I didn't get any studying done at all this weekend except 25 MCQs and reviewing NINJA notes. I am hoping that I can make real progress this week. I am definitely going for iron next Friday 9/27 and I will talk to Doc Z when I get there about what to do with the last treatment.

Lilla – I can't reschedule because the doc is scheduling 3 months out and I don't want to have to go through another round of iron 6-8 weeks from now. I'm going to take one day at a time and do the best I can. That's all I can do at this point..

Baxter CPA- Oh my gosh, you are so close to passing, but it's not worth jeopardizing your surgery. Could you adjust your working hours or maybe take a couple of afternoons off from work on your good days to focus on FAR? Fingers crossed and hoping for a passing score in October.

tough call. hanging in there! I will pray for you 🙂

It's always a trade off. Though the rule of thumb is health first.

@BaxterCPA My best friend had the same level of 2, they asked her how she was able even to walk standing up. A level that low sometimes is so debilitating that you don't even have the energy to walk upright they told her! Keep with your infusions, you have to keep your health as a priority for sure.

By chance, do you drink a lot of black tea? I just ask because it depletes your body of iron. So horrible that your body just won't absorb the iron. Keep fighting the fight.
