Not sure where you live in Alberta, but I'd probably go with Vegas. Could be a little distracting though depending where you stay. It doesn't really matter where you sit for the exam as you can test in any jurisdiction regardless of where you are a candidate.

If you haven't already done so, you can find Prometric locations here:

Whichever you choose make sure they are a online NASBA state. I live in Oregon which is a snail mail state.. It's awful waiting those extra few days!

    FAR: PASSED!! 64, 68, 79 on 2/27/13!
    AUD: PASSED!! 73, 93 on 4/5/13!!!
BEC: PASSED!! 75 (phew) on 5/24/13!
REG: PASSED!!! 77 on 8/7/13 I AM DONE!!!!!

    Experience: got it!
Ethics Exam: PASSED on first try (what a waste of money)

@CPAJourney1: I am also from Alberta. I've tried both, flying and driving, and I much prefer driving (Montana). First, you don't have the stress of the plane (will I be late? will I miss my flight/connecting flight?), and sincerely (no offense to anyone from Montana) there isn't that much to do in Helena, so it is way easier to focus and doing the last little wrap up before the exam. Also, hotels are cheaper, so I usually get there a couple days earlier to finish studying before the exam. I also can bring as much as I want (like books, notes, computer etc.) without having to deal with plane restrictions. Finally, it is way more flexible. I leave whenever I want, and I come back whenever I want, and if you need to rebook your exam for whatever reason (usually mainly work deadlines), it is not going to cost you plane cancellation fees than can be pretty intense.

I've wrote 2 exams driving (once from Montreal to Burlington and once from Calgary to Helena) and flew to San Francisco for another exam and I failed the one I went to SF for, and passed the two I drove to. I mean, there was way more to this fail than the plane factor, but I got to SF in the middle of the night because the plane was delayed 2-3 hours, and then the ride from the airport to downtown took forever. My exam was the following AM and I did not get enough sleep.

I am just sharing my experience, you do whatever you want! 🙂

I am also planning to take my last exam in July. What are you planning to write first?

    Good luck with everything!

Hi guys, I recently passed my CPA exam and am extatic beyond belief. However, i am considering moving to Canada….is there any use for a CPA out there? Does it make me any more marketable out there….or is it completely useless? Or is there another exam I could take out in Canada for more advantageous opportunites? Help me….and thanks…

    BEC 49 (5.09), 38 (5.11), 75* (10.11)

Sorry, Lari, just saw your post. You have a couple of different choices:

    – you can write the reciprocity exam to get your CA

    – you can just hang on to your US CPA. I only have this one, and it is ok. At the same time, since I'm doing US tax, it is a good justification as to why I only have a US CPA. I think some people don't care, as long as you have letters. Other employers might not understand and want you to have the canadian CA (now CPA, CA, yes it is confusing).

Make sure on your resumé that it is clear that it is the US one (or not and mention it at the interview, that's your call). But I would want to make sure that the employer is aware that you have a US designation, not canadian one.

    Good luck
