Anyone have any tips for dealing with migraines/stress headaches that do not involve medication? I really shouldn’t be taking pain killers every day. I am sleeping enough and drinking enough water. I hate how tense and stressed these exams make me feel!

Sugar is so bad for you. I have a horrible sweet tooth but decided to cut it pretty much entirely out for a few weeks but one day, I ate a bunch of candy and cookies and that night, I started getting a bad migraine. I try to stay away from it now and truvia is what I use in my coffee. I don't really like Splenda but Truvia is great.

I'll also throw out that acupuncture can be a GODSEND. If you're scared of needles, really really don't let it put you off. I've gone three times, once for wrist pain (think carpal tunnel-like), once for shoulder pain (I could not lift my left arm above parallel to the ground), and once for sinus pressure/pain, and every time it was one session and done. You lay on a table, they tap needles in to strategic points (it really doesn't hurt – the needles are so small you BARELY feel them), and then you lay there with ocean wave whale song hippy dippy sounds playing for twenty minutes or so and then they take the needles out and you go. It's amazing. Seriously, you feel better just getting off the table.

@fiona I have heard mixed reviews about acupuncture, but so cool it has worked for you! I might have to give it a try if the headaches don't go away.

@Amanda, just got the mouth guards in the mail today. I ordered ones that had good reviews on amazon. Let's hope these babies help me out!

If those don't work, you can actually get a custom fitted one from the dentist. Insurance covers most of it 🙂

^I had one custom fitted at the dentist since I grind my teeth so much. They told me 6 bucks after insurance and when I went to pick it up – 280 bucks – “sorry insurance doesn't pay” was the response I got

My migraines bring me to the point where I can't speak and can't feel my fingers /tongue. Stress is my biggest trigger by far. I've been to the point where my doctor wanted me to go on daily preventive meds, but I didn't want to go that route.

Cranial sacral therapy has worked wonders for me. As others mentioned muscle clenching and tightness in your jaw can be a big factor and this can help with that as well. I was super skeptical at first but figured I didn't have much to lose. Not sure if you're in an area that has Massage Envy, but there treatment prices are pretty cheap.

Also, as nerdy as it is I have an icepack headband that I can sport and I put an ice pack on my neck to try to soothe things a bit.

very interesting. I also get headaches if I get stressed and clinch my jaws. I find that sleeping more helps a lot! never heard of mouth guard, but might look into it.

sometimes hanging upside down/yoga/sweating helps. I guess that's just exercise in general.

So today I got a bad one again. Struck around 3:30 at work. My right eye blurry…l hate it when that happens. Popped 2 aleve gel capsules and drank a cup of coffee. Nothing. I got home and put an ice pack on my forehead for about 15 minutes and it actually helped a lot! I am able to study now 🙂

@Elle Yes! I am a member at massage envy and have one really close to my house! I decided I couldn't wait for the end of the month for my monthly massage and booked one for tomorrow. That will be my treat after my first 3 hours of studying tomorrow! 😉
