Long story short, spend most of your time on MCQ. The texts don't cover everything you need to know. The MCQ will show you all the dirty tricks the CPA exam tries to use against you. I watch Becker once and work all MCQ for the chapter. During my final two week review, I take notes (for the first time) and re-work every MCQ again for each chapter. Becker specifically does a great job writing questions extremely similar to the actual exam. I have been able to recognize questions during my exam. Don't spend too much time reading. It's not worth the effort.

I agree. I found that working the MCQ helped more than reading the material as it does give you insight as to how the questions will be written and it also gives you explanations on why the answers are what they are. In the process I learned so much more than the book covered.

Thanks for replying! More specifically my question is how do you complete your review? Do you select select a topic to review, skim your notes and, answer 25-30 questions from the test bank, then notate your weak areas and restudy then retest? Or do you select questions from multiple sections to answer and then review what you missed? I am trying to create a system that allow me to cycle through all the material in 6 weeks then have an intensive 2 wk study session before my test on 8/26/13.

I would go through each chapter and work as many MCQs again until I felt comfortable and then move on; noting the topics that I felt that I needed to look at again. So basically I would re-work most of the questions again. Right now, I am reviewing for BEC and it has 6 chapters. I just started my review today and I started with the last chapter.

Personally, I value the MCQs way more than notes. I'm not a huge note-taker, though, so that might be part of it. 😛 But if I had 300 hours left to study, I'd find every MCQ I could and drill them all till I felt very comfortable with the content! That's part of why I love test banks (I use Wiley's), because it allows me to drill and drill and drill on them.

My strategy is to do one chapter with the videos (I am using Roger CPA and thats his medium), and then run through the multiple choice right after that. I find that I definitely spend most of my time right before exam time on the multiple choice, as those are the closest thing to the real deal as you get. I also have found that if I am having trouble with a certain area, I will go back and watch his videos to clarify and get a better understanding. Then I will go back and redo the MCQ that I was having the issue with.
