Since I purchased a CPA review course, I have sat down and developed a solid study plan, and begin studying for REG Section 1. I am a little behind my goal to taking the exam in July (still on Section 1). So I will probably push back my entire study plan timeline.

For sometime now, I have noticed two problems that I need to shack off. The first problem is that I am easily distracted and whenever I get back on course for some reason, I put more time and effort on revising the study planner instead of actually studying. The second problem is that I believe that I am afraid of doing the practice questions because I know that I not going to so well. I know the more you practice the better you get, but I start thinking that I am memorizing the questions which is not good either. Also, ever since I was little I have never been good with standardized exams. Maybe it is a excuse but unfortunately low scores (even on practice exams) bothers me because I don’t like failing.

With that being said, I am reaching out for some guidance to overcome these problems. And to gain so motivation.

Hey 🙂 It's not easy at the beginning or at any point thereafter, but you just have to START. Having a planner is a great first step, so you just have to decide to get started. Commit to your plan and keep up with it daily–you can revise it as you go if you find you need to later on. Set aside a specific time each day without distractions where that is your dedicated study time and nothing else.

As for the practice problems, everyone's scores are poor at the beginning. Part of the process is developing a strategy for how you approach the questions, in addition to learning the material, which you can't do unless you start practicing. Think of the questions as just another study method rather than an evaluation. And to avoid memorizing questions, work on new ones you haven't seen until you've done all of them, and take notes on why the answer was correct or incorrect. That will help you memorize the concept rather than the question itself.

Hope this helps. Nothing feels better than seeing your own progress and passing scores down the road!

you just have to do it! I agree with ^^. The process of studying, taking and passing the CPA exam is the absolute WORST thing studying wise I have ever had to endure. And the only thing that works is actually doing it -read that book, do the MCQ-you are going to suck at it no doubt. You aren't going to be good at it, ever… So instead of analyzing it, just do it, every day, and it will come together at some point:)

Starting is the hardest part and practice makes perfect.
I remember doing some MCQ quizzes in FAR get getting 10-20%
Crushes the ego but you just need to buckle down and keep at it. Doing lots of MCQ's is probably at least 50% of the recipe for success on these exams. Not just doing from them but also learning from them. be sure to review all questions, both correct and incorrect.
