the MCQs were definitely doable, I studied to the point of being able to have a reasonable answer for 80% of them but my test was EXTREMELY tricky and not straight forward at all. Even the first testlet was tricky. Someone taking this exam would have had to know every single nuance about the sections to get these answers correct.

First testlet was pretty straight forward. Took me about 25 minutes.

Second testlet was medium except for a few questions out of left field. The questions didn’t get longer but more geared towards smaller topics. Not sure what they were asking for a few of them.

Third testlet was freaking stupid. I remember struggling with this one.

SIMs were a joke as usual (not in a good way)

Becoming a CPA is one of the biggest complishment in life, but please don't make it the biggest one.

    What else is there, CPA-Convertible?

Raising happy, healthy children will be a bigger accomplishment for me than passing a silly CPA exam could ever be.

Some people are just smarter than others and can pass without trying as hard. No need to blame Becker, the AICPA, the world, or whomever else. Stop using excuses.

I tried real hard to not post. I read this forum all the time but mostly for the accounting career related posts, but I was enchanted by this thread. People need to chill out and admit that they A) didn't study enough or B) aren't smart enough to pass given the amount of studying they did, therefore need to study more.

The CPA exam isn't difficult. You know what's difficult? Designing a rocket ship. I can't do that. Can you? That seems pretty tough to me.

I took the CPA exam and saw no curve balls. No left field bombs. Nothing that I didn’t already hear Peter Olinto or Tim Gearty talk about.

    Relax, people.

Minimorty isn't hard on people. In fact, I think he's soft.

You could say that with almost everything though. Just because you think it is hard to design a rocket ship doesn't mean the CPA exam is universally easy. Those two are unrelated in a major way. Someone like Clarence Johnson could come on and his response might be something like “Designing a rocket ship isn't hard, you know what's hard? The CPA exam.”

It just depends on your background. I do, however, agree that not passing means you should study more.

For now though, I will go add building a rocket ship to my list of things that I can't do; along with birthing a baby and battling a Rancor.

This quote is good and is relevant to this discussion.

“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

@Witchkizzle – I think we can agree that there are far more people practicing as CPAs as there are people designing rocket ships. Sure, there will always be exceptions to the general rule, but I think we can agree that, on average, designing a rocket ship is harder.

I do think building rocket ships is much much harder than the CPA exam, but that does not mean the CPA exams are easy.

I was, in no way, suggesting that if you can pass the CPA exam then automatically you can design a rocket ship.

That would be foolish for anyone to think.

I think all he was saying is, “hey, the CPA exam isn't rocket science” and I agree. Like you, I had a relatively easy time with the exams. The only comparison I believe he was making between the CPA exam and designing a rocket is level of difficulty.

@witch – did you edit your entire post? Lol. I finished mine and noticed yours was totally different. Threw me off.

I edited my post before you responded, sorry. I felt like my new one explained my issue better.

I agree it isn't rocket science or brain surgery.

Maybe my point was that it may not be like climbing Everest, but that doesn't make it a walk in the park. (since we are using cliches 🙂 )

What happened in the past is hardly worth spending your time on now. It's your game plan going forward that deserves your energy.

I do not think the CPA exam is easy at all. It's certainly not impossible, but I did find the exams to be very difficult.

It's true. We all have varying levels of intelligence and need to adjust our study times accordingly. I'm not that smart so I really study a lot.

Here's my study times so far:

REG-On and off for 200+ hours maybe

    AUD-115 (But I'm an auditor)

    BEC-150

Nothing to be ashamed of…as long as you do what's needed to get it done.
