the MCQs were definitely doable, I studied to the point of being able to have a reasonable answer for 80% of them but my test was EXTREMELY tricky and not straight forward at all. Even the first testlet was tricky. Someone taking this exam would have had to know every single nuance about the sections to get these answers correct.

First testlet was pretty straight forward. Took me about 25 minutes.

Second testlet was medium except for a few questions out of left field. The questions didn’t get longer but more geared towards smaller topics. Not sure what they were asking for a few of them.

Third testlet was freaking stupid. I remember struggling with this one.

SIMs were a joke as usual (not in a good way)

The problem with Mini is that if he were the only male contestant in an all women grudge-holding contest, he'd still win. He gets a reading on you (frequently an unfair reading based on one post) and from there on out, anytime you post, he pounces. More importantly, he NEVER changes his opinion once he's decided on you.

Yes, he has lots of good knowledge (but it isn't specialized knowledge that other A71 posters with average levels of social skills lack). Yes, he has absolutely zero tact, consideration, compassion, and basic common courtesy. He also appears to have more time than anyone else on the board.

YES, GOODLUCK IS A WORLD-CLASS TOOLBAG.

But the fact remains that since Goodluck has been a toolbag, he will never ever get an objective look from Mini again, Mini will never actually read his posts considering his comments and giving him the benefit of the doubt, and Mini will NEVER hold back on an opportunity to insult him. Anytime Goodluck posts, Mini will find something to criticize and it will be childishly nasty.

The fact that I actually like Mini (believe it or not, I actually do) is irrelevant. He has a few very vocal friends on this board, but the several times he's threatened to leave, nobody's been very much upset about it. Since his modus operandi is to say every mean, rude, ugly thing that comes into his head, I think he interprets our politeness in NOT saying “don't let the door hit you on the way out” as encouragement to stay. I have to say I think the board is worse for it. He sets the tone. The three weeks he was “gone” was the nicest three weeks we've had since I've been here. When he came back, the nasty came back, especially since his three most vocal friends are the three posters in line after him on a list of “A71 posters who can be a**holes”.

I now use this board solely for hints at what I might see on my next section. I'm just so tired of threads like these that I tend to avoid the board altogether, and I've heard from others off-board that they're sick of the tone and they've reduced their time spent here as well. Jeff's a supremely nice guy, and I don't believe he will ever actually say “shape up or ship out”, but if Mini actually cared about this board more than he cares about having an outlet to be a bully and a jerk, he'd get the message. Basically a lot of us avoid it when he's here.

Bottom line: The very fact that we CONTINUE to have long, waste of time threads about Mini himself (discussing a poster rather than the exam) is proof that his negatives outweigh his positives. I really do like Mini and agree with him on almost everything, so if he would just learn to not say everything that pops into his head and share information, he'd be an asset, but I honestly believe that either due to culture (those Californian's are different) or an actual medical condition, he won't ever be able to control himself.

@Mini lol I was just going to ask where my wifey Peanut was too!! I'm guessing she's busy at work and trying to prepare for AUD, I need to stalk her Facebook after work.

About the vibe… I don't know how to explain it. Just seemed like people had a stronger mind set of the exam, better advice, seemed much more committed, more mature, willing to do everything to pass, now it seems like people are looking for stuff to skip, shortcuts, blame others (review course, boss won't let me study, etc).

Might be my skewed vision though…you've been on here longer, do you agree?

I wouldn't take the opinion of someone who spends all their time on this board too seriously, especially someone who has already passed… the lack of social skill should not be a surprise to anyone. On that note, accountants in general aren't always the most tactful people I've met, so I get stoked when I meet a nice one. šŸ˜‰

@Katie – Oh, c'mon now. The forums wouldnt be nearly as exciting without me. It would just be a huge love fest and nobody would disagree about anything. I imagine it would go something like this:

Candidate 1: “Oh, dear goodness. This FAR exam is soo hard. How will I ever pass? I feel so overwhelmed right now. I studied for an entire WEEK and I am only scoring in the 30s. Do you think I have a chance to pass? My exam is in 4 days.”

Candidate 2: “Dont worry, Candidate 1. Everyone scores in the 30s at first. You just need to do 4 more multiple choice questions and clap your hands three times and you'll be ready for the exam. You will do great! I know you will pass.”

Candidate 1: “Thank you so much, I feel so much better now. I've been using Becker but all I have is a .pdf of pages 56 – 75. Do you think this will be enough or do I need more materials?”

Candidate 3: “Candidate 1, you should be ok. My brother's uncle's half cousin said that she passed the exam without studying. If you just believe in yourself, then you will pass.”

Candidate 1: “You guys are right. All I need to pass is a positive attitude and a smile on my face.”

Candidates 1, 2, 3: “Cumbaya, my lord, cumbaya.”

I also disagree that I never change my opinion. You are actually a perfect example of someone I changed my opinion about. I believe in one of your earliest posts you declared to the forums how brilliantly intelligent you are. I believe you and I got into a little discussion about that. Needless to say, i did not think very highly of you originally. However, you have very much grown on me as you have continued to post. I appreciate strong opinions and we have agreed and disagreed on many issues since.

@jenuno – Yeah, I see what you are saying about the vibe now. I dont know why so many people are looking for shortcuts or arent using any kind of common sense whatsoever. I think part of it has to do with the fact that the site has grown a lot so you have a much wider variety of personalities. I think there are a lot more casual posters who stumble across the site and post a few times, but dont have nearly the same dedication to the exam that the earlier posters had/have.

@Katie — But doesn't that hold true for you as well? I mean, I think we had one disagreement (my fault, of course) a while back and I'm pretty sure you've hated my guts ever since. I'm not denying the fact that I can be an a-hole, but I've also made an effort to be a lot more helpful (which I think I've accomplished). Regardless, I don't think you've ever changed your opinion of me either, right? As far as Mini is concerned, sure I think depending on the poster (bad blood between him and Goodluck), he can be a d**k, but then again, who's going to be nice to someone they don't like? On most other occasions, he's just sarcastic…the fact of the matter is sometimes people need to get kicked in the butt. The person who is pissing and moaning about how he failed before he gets his score even though he was rocking 90's on the practice tests is going to get no sympathy from me. The person who shifts blame for their shortcomings onto everyone but themselves will absolutely get no sympathy from me. And the person who (like in Mini's example) makes some ridiculous statement (e.g., I only studied 3 days, or I only have 3 pages from the book, or I only did 5 MCQs) and then tries to get a pat on the back from people telling them they'll be fine, will not get one from me. I guess that's my point…SUPPORT = GOOD; Handholding = BAD. If you want to cry about something ridiculous, call your Mom; if you want a legitimate support group because you're stressed, want to vent about failing a section, etc., come to A71. At least, that's my opinion, but that may just be reinforcing your already lovely opinion of me.

    @Mini

Oh, well I’m glad to hear that you’ve changed your opinion of me. If this is in fact true, I’d invite you to go back and reread the post you’re referring to. Since you gave us a mini-play (one of my favorite illustrative tools, by the way) I’ll give you one. Here’s an example of what you did:

    Katie posts:

So I bought this elliptical the other day. Now, I’m a girl, but I’m really strong for a girl. Like, really much, much stronger than the average girl. I’m not a weight lifter or anything, and I haven’t worked for my strength, so it isn’t like I’ve earned the strength and should be proud of it, just like someone shouldn’t take pride in the fact that they were born with the ability to play the piano by ear. Some people are born able to jump high, some are born able to play the piano, I was born abnormally strong for a girl.

Having said that, I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT KNOW how Nordictrack expects people to get these elliptical machines in their houses. My husband and I worked for two hours trying to get that box (which measured 3’ x 5’ x 7’) into the house. We tried a hand truck. We tried sliding it on plastic coasters. We tried using those arm strap things that professional movers use. We tried everything. We finally just opened the box in the driveway and carried the pieces ONE BY ONE into the house. For the base, which was already ā€œhelpfullyā€ put together in such a large piece it was almost impossible to move, we actually had to call a neighbor who was very strong and the three of us BARELY managed to get it in the house.

So, HOW ON EARTH does Nordictrack expect the average consumer who is either a single person, or a man and an average-strength girl to get these packages in the house? What was their plan? And no, before you ask, they didn’t offer any sort of extra charge setup option in the home. It was one option for delivery, period. The guy sets it off at the end of the driveway and we’re supposed to take it from there. Seriously, what are they thinking and how on earth does a middle-aged divorced woman who doesn’t live with anyone but wants to get into shape get this behemoth into her house? Big global companies actually think this out before going to market, right? They sit around conference tables and talk stuff out, right? Or at least test market it?

    Mini:

Oh, so you’re strong, huh? Hey, anybody need help moving stuff, just call Katie, because she’s a lot stronger than anybody else on this board.

    [Days later in another thread:]

    JaneDoeCPA:

You know, I can manage to study all the time, but Tax just isn’t my strength.

    Mini:

Oh, you need strength? Get Katie, she’s stronger than anybody else.

Katie just shakes her head. This is an actual experience of mine, by the way. The elliptical part, not the rest of it.

Don't know what exactly you're referring to. I don't remember having any major disagreement with you. I had noticed that a few months ago you became considerably more friendly to people, but I didn't realize I needed to say something about it. I certainly don't hate your guts.

As far as the rest of it, of course I'm not saying all the whiners and people who can't take responsibility need our encouragement and coddling. I just think we could handle ourselves with tact and manners.

I'm done with this conversation now, people.
