I need to vent…..my 7 year old daughter has been a royal pain in my bum lately. I know it’s cause “Mommy’s studying all the time”, but what she said to me today…..argrrrrrrrr. She asked if she could have something and I said no cause money is really tight right now with my husband not working and paying for these exams. So she said “oh maybe you should work more, so we have more money.” I guess it’s not enough that I work full-time and study pretty much full-time to advance myself for my family. Sorry about the vent but I know there are more parents out there feeling the same thing.

I'm not proud but here's what gets my 7-year-old to sleep every night:

We read a little from the books he brings home from school every day (just enough to wind him down). Then I put in a Justin Bieber video and tickle his back about a minute. He's asleep within 5 minutes of JB. Yes, he has a DVD player in his room – I'm a horrible parent.

He says he thinks Justin is a “tool” but he secretly likes his music and it soothes him to sleep.

you poor thing..you must be exhausted. I think Allyson is on to something with the music. I was going to take it a step further and say some white noise: i.e a fan, or one of those tapes/cd's that play a waterfall, etc. My sister is a bad sleeper and has a noise machine that she says is a life saver.

Interesting tidbit: In my journey with helping out with Gramps (Alzheimer patient), I found out from the doctor that “back in the day” Benadryl was originally used as a medicine for anxiety. My MIL kept giving gramps Comtrex (same ingredient as Benadryl) because he was having “trouble breathing”–but it really just was anxiety, and it took the edge off (for about a half hour!!!)

I give my lab Benadryl when it thunderstorms. It works better than the doggie Valium I got from the vet.

Alright, well it's 9:15 and everyone's in bed. It took me a little over an hour tonight. I started with Brooklynn, the little one, gave her, her nightly milk, gave her kiss, tucked her into bed, put her little ocean wonders on and she went off the dream land. I wish Jacqueline, my older one was that easy. Jackie and I read 3 books together and had a little of tickling contest. Then she tried to play her games, but I reminded her we agreed 9pm would be her bedtime tonight so she went to bed. It was about 9:10. Better than 10pm, maybe next week I'll try for a little earlier, like 8;30?

Ugh, I'm finding myself really struggling with studying throughout the weekend (have a 2 year old and a preggo wife). Monday through Thursday, not a problem. Study during lunch, come home, spend time with the family, then hit the books until it's time for bed.

Friday night is my official night off which typically involves a beer or four, but Saturday and Sunday (when I should be studying), yuck! Not to mention that I've been given the assignment of painting the baby's room and putting in carpet. Yeah honey, I'll get right on that…not like I'm studying for the CPA exam or anything.
