    I need to vent…..my 7 year old daughter has been a royal pain in my bum lately. I know it’s cause “Mommy’s studying all the time”, but what she said to me today…..argrrrrrrrr. She asked if she could have something and I said no cause money is really tight right now with my husband not working and paying for these exams. So she said “oh maybe you should work more, so we have more money.” I guess it’s not enough that I work full-time and study pretty much full-time to advance myself for my family. Sorry about the vent but I know there are more parents out there feeling the same thing.

    I just got a 65 on a progress test on A4 (ugh) (my archnemesis indeed) and read Allyson's post.

    A,

    Ok, there are some weird goings on in the world. 5.9 earthquake. Did you feel it? Geez, Colorado had a 5.0 earthquake also. I don't have the tv on at all during the day so I was in the dark. Looks like you will have to batten down the hatches for Irene. Hopefully it will be downgraded before landfall on Saturday. I will be thinking good thoughts for you–be safe!!

    I am hoping for good vibes for all of us too!!!

    Best wishes to you Allyson…here's hoping Irene drifts out to sea for you…

    I also have a 7 year old, and for me the feelings of guilt are worse than any attitude I get from my daughter. Anyone that has a daughter knows the “pouty face” and any father will tell you how hard it is to resist it. When she wants a bedtime story or to play a game, and I say “no Daddy needs to study tonite”…the look on her face makes me want to cry sometimes. For the most she had been a good sport about it, but as with all 7 years olds there are good days and bad days. Tonite I sat down with her and explained that this week I would be practically invisible (FAR on 8/29)…and promised her that on Tuesday we would do whatever she wanted. So Tuesday I've got a “puzzle date” 🙂

    Well…back to FAR I guess. Best of luck to all of you, and hang in there…our kids may not understand now, but someday they will thank us!! 😀

    I think the best/worst kids and studying moment for me was in June when I watched my son graduate high school. When I started back to school as a single parent, he was 10 years old. I feel like I am in a bad, old sci fi movie where someone disappears or goes into a coma for 8 years and comes out realizing the whole world has gone on without them. Did he have a middle school graduation? I see pictures (with me in them) and don't remember any of it. Long before I started the CPA exam, I was doing this crazy studying far too much thing. Hooray for my 3.8 GPA, but did my son ever go to a dance or a prom? Would someone have let me know?

    My daughter is 12, and thats another bad sci fi movie in itself. I am waiting for her to turn into Sigourney Weaver and bring forth an alien or something. The 7 year old attitude gets worse folks, brace yourselves. I am hoping to walk in the house on Thursday after AUD and have some cheesy soap opera announcer voice over “The role of Mom will be played by mom from now on!”

    It is true about good days and bad days. Today was a good day. My husband took her to library for a party for the summer reading program she was in. SHE LOVED IT!! My husband and I were saying, that was exactlly what she needed. I guess they played games (Bingo, checkers, etc), had a craft, and big prize draws. I'm so glad I signed her up :). The best part for Mommy and Daddy, it didn't cost us a dime. I'm hoping the rest of the week will go good. My husband is trying his best to keep her busy and out of my hair so I can do my final review.

    @yankee – Your story reminds me of the earlier stages in my mother's illness. Even after we had the official diagnosis, neither my sister nor brother were willing to accept how bad she was. I'd been handling everything for 6 months and told my sister that I needed her to start dealing with some of Mom's calls because I was starting a really tough semester in school. It took one week of calls (quit taking medication because she was “cured”, wanted to book a cruise on a freighter, was looking for a new house, etc.), and my sister completely changed her tune. Hearing about them just isn't the same as experiencing some of these “interesting” conversations.

    @allyson – Hope Irene passes you by!

    Good luck to everyone testing in the next week.

    @kb24,

    I was laughing reading your post. But it isn't the same way I would laugh at a funny joke, but more like I totally know what you mean. A cruise on a freighter? a new house? You are right, what a difference it makes when the siblings finally come to the conclusion that you have known for so long. Life is weird.

    I don't know why I wrote in such detail about it, but it was cathartic. Hope at least you got a giggle!

    @allyson,

    We should all be on Gramp's nighttime pills! Oh how grand life would be. Gramps is good day-thanks. (phew!!!!)

    @mia,

    ok, too funny, …”The role of Mom…” Great line ! GL on Audit

    @yankee

    I'm glad your FIL is having a good day. You really don't need any more stress right before AUD. I did get a chuckle from your description of the conversation. Like you said, it was in that “been there, done that” kind of chuckle.

    Yes, my mother wanted to go on an around-the-world trip on a freighter. I understood why she wanted to go on a cruise a few month's after my stepfather died; she loved to travel but had been unable to do much for several years because she was caring for him. However, only my mother would come up with the idea of a freighter because she thought she'd meet lots of interesting people. She started looking at houses because we wanted her to move in assisted living In her mind, moving to a new house was the same thing. Of course, when she wasn't looking at new houses, she was telling me how she wanted to live in her house of 40 years for the rest of her life because she LOVED, LOVED, LOVED her home. What can you do but laugh so you don't start crying.

    Good luck with AUD. Hope you've gotten thru the transaction cycles.

    Ok I'm going to bring it back to life. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get your 7 year old to go to bed???? She's not listening to me and the most time it takes me to put her to bed the least time I have to study.

    Any suggestions??? I need help before I go crazy!!!!

    Maybe tell her you will read to her….but read to her from your AUD book. Tell her that if she isn't going to go to bed to help you study then she will lay in bed and help you study. I don't know how easy that will be. I never had this problem with my kid…he always went to bed when I told him. I always give him the option to read for 30 mins and then go to bed…he always goes to bed without reading. He hates to read! Good luck!!

    Oh no! Is she still up?!

    Have her read your review book, she'll be out like a light in no time 😉

    Seriously though, I'm really sorry you're having difficulty getting her to go to bed….my cousin used to have this chart hanging above her bed for the differen days of the week and different things she had to do (maybe brush her teeth, go to bed on time, etc.) and when she did them properly she got a sticker. When she accumulated enough stickers she got a reward. Maybe such a thing could work for your daughter?

    I hope someone with more experience (than me) in this can give you advice!

    Good luck!!

    She just went to bed a bit ago….around 10pm. She did the same thing yesterday and she was a bear this morning. I warned her that she's going to hate me in the morning, when it's time to get up and get ready for school.

    This morning I got her up, but then she laid on the couch and fell back asleep. Of course, I didn't notice cause I was getting the little one ready.

    I think if she doesn't go to bed when I tell her tomorrow I'll have to read to her about planning an audit.
