Keep failing with scores in 70's

    Looking for some advice here:

AUD : taken three times 67 then 73 then down to 70!

REG: taken once and got a 70.

BEC : failed the first time with a 67 and passed with a 76

    havent taken FAR

now I just failed AUD for the third time and I plan to take again in a month. No matter what, at this point I will lose BEC, so basically I have to take all 4 from here on out. Maybe the reason I went down in AUD was switching to REG for a bit….

Anyway, I work between 50 and 55 hrs a week, so its kinda hard to find study time, usually get up at 5:45-6 ish and I get home around 6. I have been using Becker, watched all the videos, done probably 85% of all of the multiple choice questions and about the same amount of the sims. I have access to the Wiley Test Bank as well but haven’t really utilized it much.

So my current plan is to start back up on AUD, not sure if I should watch videos again, thoughts?

I think I’ll just go straight to the WTB questions and sims and not worry about the Becker ones for now, thoughts?

then after I get done with AUD just go back to REG and finish that up, probably using the same method especially if it works for AUD. By then my BEC will have expired and I’ll have to watch videos for that again becuase its been forever, but will hopefully pass on the first go around, then move to FAR.

I think I just answered most of my own questions by just typing this out and getting a plan together, but if anyone has any input or inspirational stories, I’d really love to hear it!

What I did to study for AUD was going to work 2 hours early and left work 2 hours late everyday for 2 weeks. I started 2 Saturdays before my exam, which was on a Friday. I spent weekend + first week watching the videos. I then spent second weekend + Monday – Wednesday doing MCQs once over. I took notes on the material I got wrong so I won't repeat the same mistakes and then try to do the MCQs I missed again. I didn't bother doing the Sims or practice exam since I don't think there were much value to them. I took Thursday before exam off to refresh myself. Based on your schedule, taking 4 hours out of every workday plus weekends is going to be very taxing but definitely doable.

    FAR - Aug 2013 Passed
    REG - DEC 2013 Passed
    BEC - FEB 2014 Passed
    AUD - MAY 2014 Passed

Get on WTB or Ninja MCQ.

Pay attention to the questions you are getting wrong. Make sure you know why you are getting them wrong. You could be reading the call of the questions wrong or just haven't boned up on the materials enough.

Then write them down and review from time to time.

Before you peek at the answer choices, try and see if you have any clue what the correct answer might be. It is going to be a slow tedious drag but it worked for me.

    FAR - 79
    REG - 76
    AUD - 94
    BEC - 77

I would shy away from using the Becker bank of questions as you have probably subconsciously memorized a bunch. WTB and Ninja MCQ. I just got an 88 on AUD (retake, though more than a year in between) using WTB, Ninja audio and just Becker MCQ. I skipped the videos, and in my humble opinion you should too. This time can be much better spent methodically reading through your Becker notes, understanding and underlining (if you need to).

Ninja audio in your car – or on the train – is a great way to link the core concepts so when you go home you can focus on the minute details. It should be the only thing playing in your stereo between now and test day. It's not pleasant, but it works. If you get to the point where you can finish his sentences you know you're doing it right.

    AUD - 75*, 88 done 5/14! (*exp)
    BEC - 74 , 77
    REG - 65 , 76 (10 point combooo!!)
    FAR - 69 , 75

I'm not using Becker, but I skipped videos (using CPAExcel) for AUD and BEC. There's so many resources, but only so many hours in a day to study. I only used them in REG b/c…well, I was scared to death of REG and was willing to study ridiculous amts. (It worked, but maybe I went a little overboard).

It sounds like you're so close to passing – hit up Ninja Audio…it's a great supplement.

    AUD: 84 - Oct. 2013
    BEC: 83 - Feb. 2014
    REG: 91 - May, 2014
    FAR: 68, 96 - Oct. 2014...DONE

    CPAExcel, Ninja Audio (all sections)

@chickman1313 – You need to take the lid off the box and get mad. Your schedule sounds good, but you need to add that little bit of “I'm a Ragin' Cajun and no damn test is going to get the best of me.”

Get up at 4am to study. Forget the lectures, if you've already watched them, they won't help. Get the Ninja Audit Blitz if you haven't already watched it, then you will pick up a point or two that you missed. Listen to the Ninja audio CONSTANTLY. Ear buds are your best friend!

Write, write, write! When you are working MCQ's have a legal pad just to write down the explanations to problems you got wrong.

Audit has some of the trickiest questions in the world, so slow down and RTFQ. Go back to the books the first time around, then hit the online questions. There is something about working out of a book that makes you slow down. Maybe it's because the answer isn't quite as easy to get to if you aren't sure about it.

Remember that the CPA exam is designed to test candidates in the cruelest possible ways. It not only tests accounting concepts, but it also tests how long you can go without sleep, without food, without having a conversation with another human being. For some of us, it forces us to become a hermit. But it is WORTH IT! Don't think about those other scores. That is the past and you can't change it. The only thing you can change is your future and the only way to change it is to rise to the challenge.

I love the quote “If it does not challenge you, it will not change you.” When you are done, you will be a changed person. Believe me. I know. You can do this. Just take the lid off the box and get mad!
