I don't read the book or listen to the lectures honestly. I just don't feel like I can learn the material that way. Like the previous poster said, he forgets 50% of what he reads and then has to go back and re read. I am the same way and would never be able to retain the material that way.
I learn best by DOING. So I begin my CPA review by getting right in to multiple choice questions. When I get an answer wrong, my review course gives me a brief explanation of the concept and shows me how to get to the answer. That kind of learning is what sticks in my head.
So far i've passed BEC on the first try but failed Audit. But my audit fail was definitely not due to shortcomings of my study material or my study style, it was because I simply did not study for it…
It does help that I just graduated from my Master's program so most of the material is still fresh and comes back to me pretty quickly after seeing the questions.
My way is pretty unorthodox and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else, but I just couldn't see myself cracking open a book and reading for hours when I spent 5 years of college using a study style that was the exact opposite.
