    Hey guys,

I am graduating in December with the 150 hours and am seriously considering how I’m going to tackle the beast. I won’t have time to study much before graduation, but I plan try some. After some research and knowing the best way I learn (auditory and visual), I’m leaning towards Roger CPA with his enthusiasm and abbreviations. Those that use that, do you like it? What are the biggest downsides? What other supplemental material do you use?

In terms of studying strategy, what techniques have helped out the most? I haven’t decided which section I want to take first, and everyone seems to have different suggestions. On the other hand, I still up for opinions. I’m hoping to study some during tax season, but I don’t want to put too much pressure, especially if I do end up getting to work Big 4.

If you guys have any additional comments/advice, I would greatly appreciate it. I’d only read a few threads before deciding I needed to join, love the genuine interest you guys have.

    Thanks!

Welcome! Good luck on your journey.

I use Roger and really like him and his teaching style. I appreciate the energetic and engaging lectures.

I like that he moves quickly. It covers a lot of ground. And for subjects I know well, I don't fell like I am

wasting time reviewing. For subjects that I did not understand, I go back and re-listen. his energy

can help motivate you when tired and frustrated. The mnemonics are nice and helpful.

Downside, he get can go through material quickly, and it takes additional study time to re-listen to the

    lectures.

Really, for me the question came down to, who do you want to listen to for the next 9-12 months in 100 plus hours of lectures. I picked Roger and have been happy. Roger come with Wiley, so that helps, but does not

come with Jeff's excellent ninja notes and audio.

If you get an offer before graduation, and they will pay for your study material, do Becker. Also, make sure to visit your state board of examiners and get your paperwork rolling and preliminary education in so that you can start testing right away. I believe BEC and AUD take the least amount of time to study for, so you might be able to knock one out soon after graduation. Although there is some carryover from FAR in AUD, so BEC is the best to take fist IMO just since it pretty much stands alone and can be knocked out with 12 long days of studying.

    FAR 96 7/01/2013
    AUD 99 7/08/2013

Thanks for the replies and the heads up about his quick teaching style. I think I would prefer it to be fast and choose to rewatch if needed rather than having to sit through a long boring lecture.

@GO Gawks, in terms of the application process, I wasn't aware I needed to visit the board of examiners? My knowledge is limited it on the NASBA.org website, I didn't see it mentioning any of that? How long does the application process typically take? Is it as simple as applying and them approving you to take the exam? Can you apply to take it without actually signing up for a test date? Because if not then there's not much of a point in me applying now (or soon)? Thanks for advice!

when i said “visit”, I didn't mean physically show up to their office. Just visit their website. your state should have a step by step process. They need to approve your education before you can sit. They can approve it while you are still in your last semester before you finish your classes, they just make you re-send the transcript one the semester is over, however, it will allow you to be approved faster and sit as soon as you are ‘Preliminary approved”.
