Good for you, single is more flexible. Plus, if he left you because of an exam, think of where his priorities would have been if things ever got serious.

You are better off. I agree with others on here, if he couldn't truly be supportive of you (not just lip service) through this, there would have most likely been another point down the road where he would bail. You are doing something to better yourself. If he can't make a sacrifice for something that is important to you, you are probably much better off.
