    I am in the process of getting an MA in Accounting, but will be 49 by the time I finish it. I am debating taking the CPA exam at the end. Given that I will be almost 50 by the time I finish taking the exams (assuming I pass all on the first try!), is it worth it at that point? I had a career in my 20’s, then became a stay at home mom for 12 years, then went back to school for accounting. I have been working part time as an accounting assistant for 5 years, but other than that, no real experience.

    Welcome Phough! I will be 51 in a few months, am halfway done with exams and am very excited about becoming a CPA. I am a CFE and will get my CFF after, so I can have a whole alphabet soup after my name. I don't think it's too late at all. I have a 10 year old who helps me study and a very supportive, understanding hubby. Go for it and don't stop! My biggest hurdle is getting my hours signed off on – 2,000 hours needed here in CA. Best wishes!

    AUD 88 (expired), 80 retake

    REG 75 (expired) September 7

    Just wanted to say awesome thread here.

    Life is short, go for it.

    I became a stay-at-home dad when my kid was born and my prior education and background was not accounting related. In five years I raised an awesome kid, went to school at night, and passed the CPA exam.

    Some old farts here. I am surprised you folks even know how to use the Internets. JK.

    I am 37 years old now. I started this journey when I was 34, which seemed young at the time, but now I feel old as hell. I hope I pass the CPA soon and get into one of the Big 4s. I have KPMG experience already, non-accounting though.

    I graduated with a BS in accounting in 2004 and always intended to take the CPA and enter the accounting field. Looking back, I shouldn't have veered from that initial goal. Instead I got side tracked to doing management, which I enjoyed and didn't do too badly for myself. I don't have any children nor am I married so I have a lot of time. I want to challenge myself, and my mental needs are different now that I'm in my 30's. I want to be challenged so I am going back to studying for my CPA and to pass it…then we'll see what happens afterwards. That is my only focus for now.

    Getting your CPA in the late 40's is like a “Fine Wine,” it get's better with age.

    With a CPA at 40 and a bottle of “AXE” body, what woman can resist me, really?

    @Martin – I got a 76 in FAR – overachieving piece of crap!

    I wonder if anyone has ever scored all 75s?

    Lion_of_the_Rock almost got all 75s too. I will admire whoever gets 4- 75s more than someone who gets 4-99s. I can take the person with all 4 75s to las Vegas and gamble, I wouldn't be able to do that with the over achiever.

    Martin – That's not true. An overachiever may be able to help you in Vegas by counting cards. That's assuming they don't catch you can break your legs first.

    Don't let anyone tell you it's not worth it or you are too old for anything. I am 45 and am half way done with this exam. If I can do this so can you! Why anyone would tell you it's not worth it is not even worth listening too! They are just being a hater!
