Just got out of Reg yesterday. My story is in another post. I completed everything but only got partial points for each sim mostlikely. Left the center and double checked some of my answers to find indeed i had made Sim mistakes. Anyway, I hope i pass but in the chance that I don’t (i’m guessing i’ll get a 74) do you move on to the next section or start preparing to retake?

I passed FAR already and BEC was going to be my next test. I have until Oct 2015 to finish all four. I’ve been studying 3 months then testing.

I’m just worried that I won’t retain enough REG if I move on and may have to start all over with it again.

It may not be curved in the literal sense of the word, but a 75 doesn't mean a 75%. That has been well-established, correct?

They only want x% passing per quarter, duh! I also don't understand how they can determine how well you did on the MCQ on the fly, during the exam, but not give you the grade immediately after pressing submit post Sims/WCs.

Below is an excerpt from the AICPA website. The passing score of 75 is simply an indication that the candidate demonstrated a level of proficiency necessary to protect the public interest.

“The CPA Examination is NOT curved. Every candidate’s score is entirely

independent of other candidates’ Examination results.

The CPA Examination is a criterion-referenced examination which means that it rests upon pre-determined standards. Every candidate’s performance is measured against established standards to determine whether the candidate has demonstrated the level of knowledge and skills that is represented by the passing score. Every candidate is judged against the same standards, and every score is an independent result.”

Curved in the traditional sense means your score is determined by your performance compared to your peers who take the same exam in the same window. The points assigned to each question are supposedly predetermined by test questions on previous exams-so it's splitting hairs.

As for why it takes so long I am convinced it's because the powers that be took the exam in the day you could only take all 4 parts in a 2 day window, they had to walk uphill in the snow barefoot to get there and wait 6 months for scores. Someday when the AICPA is run by people who agonized for 3-4 weeks, they'll speed it up. I took an exam on 1/6/11 and had to wait until something like 3/20/11 for my score. It was torture.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

My method of picking a test date has always been to pick one closest to the end of the wave release if possible so I don't have to wait as long for my score. I wouldn't be able to study until I knew my score anyways. I am glad I took AUD again right after failing it the first time. I remembered things from my studying that I probably would have forgotten if I threw another test in between, but that's a personal preference. Because you took it so early in the testing window you have time to pass another test before the end of August. I say go for it–BEC or AUD. Get a PASS behind you and IF you have to retake REG then go back to it for October/November. I prefer to only take one test per window because it allows me some breathing room in between exams (and because I failed AUD when I took it only two weeks behind BEC), but that's also a personal preference.

    Thanks Mommy of 3

I have one done already but was hoping for 2 with 15 months left before expiration of the first one. I hate failing anything in life and the time and effort I put into this one (217+ hours) would hurt.

With that said, I'm starting BEC on monday and couldn't be more thrilled to get back to the books.

I think its ridiculous that they make us wait 1 month to see our scores. Why the heck do they need one month to grade a 90 question exam that was done on a computer.

    REG-77
BEC -Waiting on score May 5th
    AUD - May 30
FAR - Q3 depending on if i pass above two in Q2

I was listening to my BEC Ninja Audio, and in the IT section Jeff says something about them using batch processing for the CPA exam, because it leaves a better audit trail. I imagine batch processing would also help with better data collection for the pretest questions.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

Disclaimer: My ninja avatar is not meant to imply that I have any affiliation with this site other than being a forum member. That's a pic of a T-shirt that my daughter gave me for my birthday. 🙂
