I was studying the wrong way.

I was simply reading the text and doing the practice questions. I was also rushing through I think. I am now taking things slower. I’m reading the text and am taking notes. I am doing the practice questions and am looking at the answer descriptions. I am reviewing my notes AND am writing down concepts that I don’t completely understand. I can’t believe how I was studying before. I think I just wanted to get done quickly, and if you know me, you’d know that it doesn’t work like that with me. I’m one of those people who has to read, write, absorb and repeat A LOT to really understand. I also go over Ninja notes, which are very helpful. I think what really helps me to absorb the information is writing my own notes. Hopefully when I take AUD in Q4, I will pass. Has anyone else had to change their study plans? What have you done differently?

    YES

I started this journey around winter 2012 and tried to follow the guide my review course suggested. Watching lectures, highlighting, and RUSHING through the material. It wasn't working and I failed all 4 sections before actually receiving a passing score. I went back to my habits back in college by skipping the video lectures, reading and TAKING notes and hammering out homework problems. Once I passed my first section, FAR, I knew I had the right method. I've seemed to keep up the momentum so far…

    Hey Tootsie!!!!!

How are you? My study habit sucks!!!! So I really can't help you there! I am more in the dynamics of back and forth in a live classroom. For me to sit down and listen a lecture and then read, is torture… But that's what you got to do.

Listen, read, answer, repeat… Listen, read, answer, repeat…. ;-(

Everyone learns differently. I don't know why anyone would follow a study method that they don't feel like is working for them just because a review course tells them too. Do what YOU need to do to get the job done.

It's amazing how I am grasping the material since I changed my study habits. I think another problem I had before was distractions. I was trying to study with my husband and dog in the same room. I now study in a separate room, and I also study in a cafe in the building where I live. I definitely feel more focused and motivated now than ever. Yay!

    Happy studying!
