How to regain motivation

    I have lost all interest in studying for FAR and I don’t know how to regain it. Everyday I do about 20 MCQ’s and just don’t have the psych to study anymore. Any advise on how to regain the motivation to study? I loved studying for FAR the first time and looked forward to opening my book every evening. After the 74, I don’t have it in me to even open the Wiley book. And am worried this state of mind may be permanent.

    I feel ya. I was struggling over the holidays to study, but now I'm back at it (with only 20 days or so until my test).

    I've had to create a game, if you will, out of MCQ. I'm using the Ninja MCQ and have done enough questions that I'm in the adaptive learning phase. I will work questions for whatever topic is my lowest trending score until it is no longer my lowest. Once it's moved up, then I move to whatever is now the lowest score. Having a goal to keep moving up my scores has helped keep me on track with working questions.

    The fact that you were so close should be motivation to keep going! You can do it!

    I'm a stubborn person. I refused to let the exam beat me. what motivated me most was watching the strugglers on here take the exam 20+ times and still go strong

    Not sure how many times you took the exam but sure it hasn't been more than me

    So if you want it go get it! I defeated this beast and now i'm living my life as a champion and so can you!

    Man I was feeling the same way about FAR back in October. I wanted to just quit and had not motivation, then I remembered why I started the journey to begin with – It triggered because I work for the Fed Gov't and it can be absolutely insane – Like working with zombies that just gossip and fail to meet deadlines. Passing the exam would give me options of not just being an accountant with a degree…gives me separation from my peers…then I reset my plan and finished up in December.

    Find the why you started in the first place, reset your plan to study and knock it out of the park!!!

    good luck!

    Agree with EFMBNCO. Whatever the reason why you started this journey, bring it with you until the end!

    @nolifecpa and @EFMBNCO your words of encouragement are very much appreciated. Just found out I failed FAR for the second time, and somehow managed to do worse then on my first try. I have a wide range of emotions right now and it sucks that I have to go in to work soon and face all my co-workers who are convinced that I have passed. The office manager has been asking me nearly every day since I took the exam if I passed, ugh I just don't want to deal with her today. 🙁

    At this point in time all I want to do is stick my head in the sand, yes very mature of me… lol

    Thanks everyone, FAR was my first exam attempt, I was completely burnt out by the time I was done studying. What was discouraging for me was the fact that the exam was quite easy. I didn't understand how I could fail it especially with just a point.

    I will dust myself off and just like nolifecpa become stubborn and start studying for a April retake. Nolifecpa, you are my hero, I don't know how you did it but you have my respect.

    @Nolifecpa you're a beast, all respect.

    @sarling I believe it's less about motivation and more about just sucking it up and doing it. With all honesty there wasn't much motivation in my experience, it was all determination and stubborness to complete my first 3 exams.
