How to hold on to earlier material?

Any tips on remembering material from more than a few weeks ago? It’s not like I forget how to amortize bond premiums or any other major calculations like that, but some of the MCQs I work for review might as well be asking “What is the fifth word of the second to last paragraph on page 246?”

I mean, how are you supposed to remember all these little details in order to regurgitate them come exam day?

I know how you feel. At least it's still in English. LOL

I know how you feel. In my case I did forget a lot of the calculations too. I test in 5 days and am memorizing a ton of flashcards to keep the stuff in my head!

Rewriting your notes goes a long way to engraining things in your memory.

The thing that sucks for me, is that my Bisk review started 5 weeks ago meaning I'll have like 4 weeks after it is over to try and hold on to all this material. I'm at a loss as of how to go about this. Only 2 more weeks of structured review left and can't test until October.

Flashcards are awesome. I only used them for FAR, but they helped me TREMENDOUSLY. If I had known how valuable they were, I would have used them from the beginning. I used them in the car at red lights, in line at the grocery store or anywhere I was. If I was on hold, I'd bust them out. As I was going through MCQs in Becker, I'd write out my flashcards and I'd have a stack with me at all times.

A lot of people buy them, but I though writing my own really helped!

I bought Beckers, but as I am studying the material again in my final review I am adding my own to it for concepts I know that I am going to need to remember. You are right. I memorized them with REG and it really helped. It reinforces the concepts in a big way.

Highlight a few mcq's and go back to them every few days.

In my case I've been running through partnership/s-corp/c-corp distributions, basis calculations, bankruptcy, alimony recapture, kiddie tax, etc to keep it fresh. It doesn't take long and makes the review process much easier…or so I hope.

I going to start adding a review day to my study plan. Starting with week 2 of my studies, I go back and answer MCQs, reread previous notes and some material from the book. I plan to not add any new material on review day unless I do really do well with the initial review.

I don't know if your review course offers Progress Exams (e.g., Becker), but I found those to be extremely helpful. After I felt I had mastered the material in the chapter I was reviewing, I would work Progress Exams in order to refresh me and let me know what areas I needed to spend more time reviewing later.
