How is this possible? Third 74 in a row.

Feeling defeated. I’ve been studying since September 2012 and have taken 8 exams – passing AUD and BEC on the first try…and failing REG and FAR each three times. I’ve received 74’s twice on both.

I’ve just gotten my THIRD 74 in a row. I spent all summer studying for FAR for my second attempt, took it on August 30th and received a 74. I spent a whole extra month studying and took it again October 3rd. Just to get another 74. I took REG on November 27th and yesterday just received my 74. How is this even possible???

I’m a calm test taker and I’ve been studying really well – making sure to take notes, do thousands of multiple choice, etc. I even switched from Becker to Wiley to get new test banks and a different perspective. I’ve been through the material so many times that I really feel like I know what I’m doing. It just doesn’t seem to matter anymore.

Everyone in my family wants me to contact that State Board…but they don’t understand this isn’t like talking to a professor after class.

I have FAR scheduled again for January 13th. But now I have to fit REG again in before tax season. I’ve always been a good student, etc….I never thought I would have this bad of an experience with the CPA exam. I’m at a loss at all of this.

Getting 74 is one of the worst feeling ever! My hat is off to you for continue the fight even after 4 of them. What doesn't kill you make you stronger right?

I feel like you've done more than enough MCs (maybe to the point that you start memorizing the answers?).

For upcoming FAR re-take, create a list of ALL the possible JEs from your study materials and go over them one by one to make sure you completely understand them. For REG, MCs are not as challenging as FAR or AUD, my recommendation is to befriend the IRC. Practice using the IRC to solve problems because REG sims usually go very deep into the details.

I hope that help. Keep your head up high and keep moving forward.

    REG - 72, 72, 81
    BEC - 77
    FAR - 70, 81
    AUD - 74 "so that's what it feels like." Round 2: 79

Passing the exam is not impossible task. GIVING UP is the only way YOU can make it impossible!

If it wasn't for all the money and time I've spent on it already…I'd be running out the door. This is beyond personal now!! Thanks for your advice. I think a whole lot of reading and not as much MCQs is the way I'm gonna go. This suuucks.

    @Cardea,

Hang in there. Yes it's frustrating to be so close but so far away. It does feel like a waste of time to continue to study and take these exams over and over, but the reality is YOU ARE SO CLOSE. DON'T QUIT NOW. You're one more question, sim, or journal entry away from 75. So re-group, cry it out, re-schedule but don't be defeated. The harder the work the more appreciation at the end. It is not a light thing to become a CPA whether you're on your own, looking for the ideal position, or already working for big 4. CPA are some very coveted letters. You can do it……You've made it this far.

    It begins with a 75
Been here too long as a cheerleader....ready to pass

Cardea – Found this quote…hope it inspires you and others including myself…I just failed AUD with a 74, it sucks.

Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

    BEC - 5/26/2013 75
    REG - 8/31/2013 82
    AUD - 11/24/2013 74, 2/9/2014 92
    FAR - 5/25/2014 85

@jrosen I love that!!! Thank you very much! That's going in my cubicle.

@Shawn I'm trying to. I'm a devout Catholic and I can't tell you how many rosaries I have said or candles I light in church. I have a whole convent praying for me. Starting to feel like I'm being punished for something! None of my novenas are helping šŸ™

Thanks for the advice everyone? Has anyone heard of such a situation like this? This is so unusual. I have never met anyone in this spot or could even fathom this!

I think Jeff himself has been in this very situation. I think his survival guide will be a good thing for you to read.

I know its very frustrating and all I can say is don't give up!!! Yes I think reading all the material again and then practicing the MCq's will really help. I personal make my own little nugget notes to highlight the important things etc. Also i think when you do the MCq's and when you see the answer – read why it is right and the others are wrong. That may hold the key to you get over the 74 barrier šŸ™‚ Good Luck!

    FAR 05/27/14; 786/110 - Done !
