I typically avoid study groups like the plague because I don’t want to be someone’s teacher and I certainly don’t want someone knowing way more and feeling like I’m slowing them down. But now I do feel like i know enough to use study groups as tool so I am considering it. How do you feel about study groups? have they been helpful or a distraction?

When I first got involved with another.71 I was on the study group boards more often. I found that keeping up with the forum boards can be too much sometimes. I do check in from time to time and offer whatever knowledge I can.

Smaller study groups on Facebook are more effective for me. Mainly because I get a notification and see posts on my Facebook feed. Whereas with the forum I have to seek out new posts and I don't always have time for that. It's also nice to have a specific person to check in with in a private study group.

Hi Bluegirl what do you think was your biggest challenge in passing the FAR exam? How did you mainly study? Did you quickly give up on a question and just look at the answer and learn from it?

I felt the same way as highlightnumb where I didn't want to spend the whole time answering questions or explaining concepts to a big group of people. I had a study buddy when I prepared for REG and it was great. She was a friend from school and we met up 2 or 3 times a week. We watched Becker videos or did problems and it held me accountable to get my material done and stick to my schedule. It's amazing how checking in with someone can keep you motivated.

@highlightnumb The main barrier to passing FAR is the amount of information you must know. As for studying I do most of my learning through MCP's. After I watch the videos and before I do MCP's I create a consolidated set of “clif notes.” Usually I started with Jeff's ninja notes and add other information from my own notes I took while watching videos. Then when I am answering MCP's I'll purposefully refer to my notes for each answer (even if I get it correct.) If my notes are thin in that area I fill it in with information from the Wiley explanation. My theory is that for every question in the testbank I should be able to find an answer in my notes. Also, I can then become comfortable recognizing the most common wrong answers.

So, short answer. Try to write a fact nugget for each MCP you do. You will want to do all of the questions in the testbank at least once, twice is ideal.
