What do you do after a long day of studying and your hand is ready to fall off? I think I have carport tunnel. I put pain reliever cream on at night and also wrap it with an ace bandage but it hurts again the next day. I’m sure the texting with my thumbs doesn’t help either :/

Had it a few years back went to a chiropractor she adjusted me a few times a week for a month. I bought a ergonomic key board and a mouse and it never came back. The only time it occurrs is when writing for extended period of times (re-writing notes). I strectch my palms out with the tips on the desk and push downward.

Stretch! Take many mini breaks and stretch. I had this diagnosed years ago and I found a great stretch that helps me.

Stand up. Clap your hand together high over your head. Palms touching, fingers tall and reaching for the ceiling as high as you can go. Relax your shoulders. Slowly pull your hands, still together, down in front of your face and keep going as low as you can with your palms still touching. Feel the stretch and hold it for a few seconds. Repeat as needed. This pops my shoulders, stretches my wrists and gets the blood flowing.

Don't ignore your pain. Have it seen by a dr.

try replacing some of your writing with other methods of studying. I recommend reading out loud as it is an active way to study but the voice can handle much more than the hand. I used to write incessantly……carpal tunnel big time! I never knew how much it could hurt as I always heard people joke about getting carpal tunnel if they write too much. but it is certainly no joke. The burning sensation was unbearable for months on end. I ended up switching my study habits and only write down key points here and there, the rest of the time I try to talk it out as much as I can,

its probably more from texting than handwriting.

That said I do not handwrite anything, ever. Even have a signature stamp with my signature for when I print checks. Still get the job done!

A chiropractor can adjust your wrist. That helps me a lot. Otherwise, give your hand a break and try to only write when you need to!

I don't text all that much so I can't comment on that. But I have noticed the pain comes from mouse usage. The mouse does 100 times more damage than typing on a keyboard. I just try to lay off the mouse and use my left hand more.

I have touch screen so i do not have to look for the mouse and it help me a lot while i am studying. Also when i am stressed out my posture is bad . Pain come to my hand then to my shoulder and eventually to my head. Make sure you sit straight and you back have a good support. Exercise does help to release pain and stress. If your pain is in the wrist or fingers then it would probably because of typing and writing.

I'm a powerlifter and until recently was an accountant, so I had BAAAD CTS. Best advice is to fill a bucket with ice water 2x a day and soak up to mid forearm for 10 minutes. Also, wear a brace. It helps

I had this issue from working on the computer a couple years ago. A medical professional told me that if I didn't take care of the underlying cause and ultimately had to have surgery, my wrists would never be 100% of what they were before. Since I'm still young, that scared me into dealing with it ASAP. Here's what I did that completely fixed my CT:

    1. Vertical mouse – Regular computer mice were most of the cause of my problems, the vertical mouse is a much more neutral position for the wrist. Highly recommended!
    2. Powerball – no, not the lottery, this is a gyroscopic ball that exercises the wrist and arm in an incredible way that completely helped me recover from my pain within a week. I can also vouch for its usefulness for rotator cuff issues.
    3. Stretches and breaks – as others have mentioned, take breaks every 20-30 minutes and stretch your wrists (and the rest of your body). A google search provides some easy, simple wrist stretches that are useful for keeping the wrists limbered up.

You can try accupuncture, I know it can be expensive, but if you live in the Bay Area they have these places called Sarana Accupuncture, it's like a community accupuncture setting and they charge about $20 for every visit (around 45 min-1 hour), i had shoulder pain from sitting all day at school and work, and I started feeling a difference after going there. But it won't make a difference immediately, it may take a few weeks or months. Hope you feel better!
