MrCPA2BParticipantJust curious if I am the only one out there having a tough time absorbing the information. I have been reading the same chapter for 2 weeks now and still hadn’t been able to retain any information. If I do, it’s small amounts of info. It frightens me that I’m weeks away from taking this beast and I can’t seem to remember anything. My girlfriend tells me that I should just read the chapters just for general knowledge and try to understand the MCQ’s more than whats in the chapters. Is this a good idea? Any pros wanna offer up some advice to someone in the minor league?

Study MonkMemberI wasted a lot of time trying to feel like I mastered the material before approaching the questions. I think its best to get into the questions as soon as possible because it will give you a better idea of what they actually test on. I use Becker and its sad how much time I spent on miscellaneous crap that's most likely not going to be on the test.
As far as the recall thing goes. If you weren't taking your test in two weeks I would recommend creating flashcards. Flashcards has all of the benefits of taking notes like putting the information in your own words and taking time to understand the material. However flashcards also allow you to practice finding the information in your head and gives you instant feedback on whether or not you understand the material.
My old strategy was do flashcards on everything before the questions. My new strategy will be first read the material then do the questions to get an idea what the focus is on the information and then go back and do flashcards on all relevant testable information. Master the flashcards. Then master the questions.
Because you only have two weeks I recommend just knocking out question after question. I will say that I am two weeks from taking FAR and have done a majority of the questions and I am still not certain I will be prepared. Search your feelings Luke. Will you be ready in two weeks?
I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:
"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

MrCPA2BParticipant@Study Monk…..Thank you for your feedback. I don't think I will be ready in 2 weeks though but I will give it a chance. Just curious, when you say flashcards, would you recommend putting the questions and answers on flashcards or doing something like vocabulary on flashcards?

Jdinh04MemberI just started studying for AUD last week and just wrapped up A2 today. From my experience, I found it helpful to watch the lecture once, read the chapter and follow up answering the MCQs. I have at least ran through each of the MCQs twice before moving onto the next lecture. I think the best thing you can do right now is to continue doing the MCQs and understanding why the correct answer is right and is the best. Also might be helpful to go back and read through the chapter if time permits.
AUD - Awaiting score, please be a pass!

RTFQMemberI am all for flashcards! I think that they make a world of difference, it forces you to look at everything in your book, think about it, and figure out how to condense it into notecards. My review course has 3 sets of questions for each chapter and you do one per week while still moving forward to keep the older chapters fresh. I try to watch the lectures, read the chapter, then once I'm done with all three sets I do flashcards on the chapter, technically making it my third time reading it. My study plan always revolves around:
1. do flashcards for each chapter
2. do TONS of mcqs (usually around 2000)
3. the “3 read rule” for each chapter
Good Luck!!

AnonymousInactiveI would suggest the Ninja Flashcards. They are great and you can use them on your phone or tablet and study anywhere.

AnonymousInactiveHey don't give up , I had to read the chapters multiple times, do the mcqs over and over , only to get the feeling of what exactly is auditing about. When you finish all the chapters and put it together, you will be more cleared , I am sure. BTW , I am also in Houston.

Study MonkMember@ CR7 I have covered the first 9 chapters pretty well but will probably skim over Ch 10 and hopefully get to the multiple choice. At this point I think going over government accounting, doing journal entries, and working on research questions is going to be a big focus on my final review. I am losing the next few days to the holidays though.
@MRCPA2B I do flashcards for both definitions and concepts. Anything that is related to the multiple choice questions in Becker. I feel like I wasted a lot of time studying for FAR because I didn't realize that 50 percent of the Becker books is not relevant to the questions being asked. I have flashcards on 80 percent of the first 9 chapters and only 20 percent of the information actually helps me answer the questions.
However doing flashcards on the right material should be a huge help. Keep in mind that if I don't pass FAR its going to be that I didn't get enough multiple choice questions in. Balancing my understanding of the concepts with improving multiple choice understanding is where I will need to find a better balance while preparing for other exams.
