Helping someone else study….BEC now

    Hello,

I’m not taking the CPA exam, but my better half is. With Becker 2014 (books and online) in hand – I’m familiar with many of the high-level concepts as a manager, but am having trouble figuring out where best I can help. Here’s my question –

If you could have someone help you study to pass, what would you have them do for you?

    Thanks for your insight –

I think the only thing you can do is to provide ample study opportunities and ease the workload (cooking, etc). No offense to you but I personally wouldn't want content help from anyone who was less than expert with the subject. Just my .02. I was also familiar with the high level concepts before I started studying and that familiarity didn't serve me well at all as far as the exam went.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

    Thanks mla.

I've been handling all the household stuff including dinner, trying to keep the TV off, and such. I've been reading out loud – just trying to do more (and be useful at it too)

Some here may disagree, but if he/she is very intense in his studies, I would schedule a few hours a week on a joint social, exercise, spiritual or cultural activity.

For example, I take a few hours on Sunday to go to yoga class, shopping, visit my son.

Its power to refresh actually helps me reorganize my problem-solving approach…

    BA Mathematics, UC Berkeley
Certificates in CPA and EA preparation, College of San Mateo
    CMA I 420, II 470
    FAR 91, AUD Feb 2015 (Gleim self-study)

You could create flashcards on every topic. Creating flashcards is tedious, but will really help your partner test their comprehension of the material.

I don't see why you learning the material is necessary. It might be helpful for your partner to explain the material to you as a way to reenforce what they already know.

I agree that saving them time on household tasks is far more helpful than trying to learn the material. You should be able to cook all of the meals, maintain a perfectly clean house, and do all of the shopping in the time it would take to prepare for BEC.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"
