Help me out guys, I need a kick in the . . .

Long story short I failed REG with a 74 May 30th. After a full weekend of feeling sorry for myself I scheduled for the next available testing day, July 2nd. (I didn’t want to push into my study time for FAR too much, that I plan on taking at end of August). I was determined to get REG out of the way by studying through June.

I feel like I’ve slacked. I haven’t been studying as hard as I could be. I watched the 5 or 6 Blaw lectures that I skipped the first time around, rewrote maybe 1/4 of my notes, and have done maybe 100 MCP’s. I feel uninspired, depressed and unmotivated even though test day is coming closer.

I have work issues, so applying for jobs and going on interviews has been a “productive” distraction for me, but a time suck to say the least.

I’ve got 10 days left. Any suggestions on how to make the most of it? I have the Yaeger lectures, my notes from those lectures, the Wiley test bank and Jeff’s audio. (this is the first time I have used his audio and I discovered that I’m not a audio learner, I zone out almost immediately when I play them.) How do you guys use the test bank? I have been getting so bored with it and have trouble focusing after an hour or two. I feel like I need to switch it up. Are the NINJA notes even worth my time at this point?

Kicks and advice would be welcome folks

Stop feeling sorry for yourself, in this world YOYO. So, get back to studying, pass all these exams as fast as you can because you know what? YOLO.

I'm in the same boat girlfriend. I need someone to come slap me around a bit. I have 10 days as well. For REG, rewriting your notes and pounding Wiley MCQs is going to get you over that hump. Maybe try to go back and forth between rewriting and MCQs–it'll make it not so boring/grueling. Maybe re-write two pages, then do 25 MCQs. Something like that. You're SO close, and REG is such a beast! Take REG down July 2nd!

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

I feel your pain, i can completely relate to what you are going through. I was in the same situation not too long ago..

See, you have to bring back the motivation, that is half of the battle, attitude counts a lot on this exam. You need to breathe and walk this cpa exam every single day of your life till you pass, make that committment first.

Second – its the actual studing and taking the test. Break down your lectures into 45 minutes section. For e.g Go over commercial paper's lecture, do the questions in wiley and take a short break. Think of this as HIIT ( High Intensity Interval training) give short bursts to each of these lectures and questions rather then going for a marathon… I hope you get the drift, this way you will not get bored and your energy level will be up, somewhat.

Spread out your studying over small 1 hour sessions, may be 3 sessions a day, rather then studying for 3 hours straight. this worked me for me.

And everyday write on a note pad , that i will beat this exam, i will conquer this exam, i will bitch slap this exam… you have to be pumped up and treat this like a war before you walk into prometric…As i mentioned earlier its all about attitude….

Rome was not built in 1 day, take baby steps, and you will succeed.

I'm there too- only I'm taking the test for the first time. Need to get on with it ASAP. I'm hoping I will find motivation as test day draws even closer. For now I think I'm going to catch up on some napping and bad TV.

Dont be too harsh on yourself.. I have 12-13 days until REG.. and I have honestly studied maybe 4 hours a day for the last few days.. and today…. well.. Im feeling very unmotivated.. Im not sure how i'm going to do it.. I've heard people saying the last 2 weeks should be 10+ hrs a day doing non stop MCQs.. I've lost motivation 🙁

Funny.. thing is after I posted this comment, I went on facebook real quick.. and the first thing I saw was this: https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/251984_4072278888218_598354758_n.jpg

    Never give up 🙂

Someone on A71 said that you should try to envision yourself during score release week. Do you want to experience the euphoria of passing or the disappointment of failure? Also, do you want to be telling yourself that you HOPE you passed or do you want to be telling yourself that you know you passed – you're just waiting on a score!

Peanut has the right idea. When I'm sick of doing MCQ, I switch to re-writing my notes. When I'm sick of that, I do my flashcards or audio. Section off times of the day where you are completely devoted to studying and buckle down and do SOMETHING that is related to studying.

    REG - 80 (Becker only)
    BEC - 76 (Becker only)
    AUD - 71, 76 (Becker only)

10 hours a day for the last two weeks? I find that seriously hard to believe. (I mean, who am I to say, it's not like I've passed a section yet)… but still. When I read stuff like that I understand why people lose motivation.

I cant help but believe that quality of study is so much more important than quantity. I think quantity is important too, and this round I've put in a good 100-120 hours of studying for the test I'm going to take in a week and a half. But I havent studied more than 3-4 hours a day. For me, personally, it is not possible to study more than 3-4 hours in a day and retain anything or gain anything from the experience. Then again I'm the girl who never pulled an all-nighter in college because I cant form coherent sentences if its after 1 a.m.

At any rate, I think that thinking “I just need to study for a few hours today” and then ACTUALLY DOING IT is a hell of a lot more useful than feeling like a failure because you aren't studying 10 hours a day. Seriously, doing *anything* is better than being paralyzed by fear of imperfection.

Thanks everyone, it sounds like I'm not the only one who needs a kick!

The idea about committing to studying for say 3-4 hours per day is a good one. I am working part-time by choice right now, so when I have all day to study and I only put a few hours in, I get REALLY hard on myself. I feel like I'm setting my self up for failure, if I wanted it bad enough I would be studying at least 8 hours/day right? Except I don't retain anything after awhile and I get frustrated.

I did some “retail therapy” and got the Wiley test bank android app for my phone. I like gadgets so this is a special treat for me. Part of my problem is I believe MCP's are my best study method, but sitting in front of the computer is just killing me (sometimes physically I have a issues with my hip) and I don't have a laptop. Now, I can sit out in the garden or a coffee shop and do MCP's.

Also, I stumbled on this and thought it was apropo https://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/115/open_next-design.html

Have a productive weekend everyone! I'm glad I posted, hopefully it helped push some of you into gear as well.

well, it could be summer. I am feeling it too. Except mine has to do with depression. It is scary. I am having premonitions that my FAR and BEC will expire even though I have 4 testing windows to do this.

    What to do?
