If so, how did you study? Or did you kind of just answer questions if there were any?

I’m moving to Dallas soon and I’m sure there’s some other CPA candidates studying there so I was trying to decide if it’d be worth it to find someone to study with or if that just doesn’t work out or really isn’t a way to do it.

Depends on how you study and what material you are studying (FAR BEC AUD REG). I think you could possibly study with a partner if you were using flashcards and trying to memorize stuff, (aud, bec) but for FAR I dont think studying with someone would be helpful. CPA exam is all about MCQ and just doing as many as humanly possible. Plus Im a talker so any group study session leads to talking about sports or even worse politics : )

I used to think studying together was very inefficient. I agree, pounding through mcqs might be more beneficial.

But there was one time my friend who was studying for the CFA, asked me about deferred tax liability. I was horrified(but not surprised) that I couldn't explain this concept. But I did want to teach my friend, so it took a half hour on his part(waiting for me) to gether up my thoughts. In the end, because I taught it to him, I learned it because I could explain the concept to him.

I guess, it worked only because my friend asked me a question that really tested on a concept I was unfamiliar with.

@homestretch very very very true. You dont know something until you can teach it to someone from scratch. I guess my point was that if you have time constraints and want to maximize your studying MCQs are the best way to go. But you're 100% right, some people learn way more by teaching others and explaining it. Some people learn by reading, hearing and others by repeating and hearing themselves talk. haha To each his own.

This cracks me up. I live alone and not entirely surprisingly NONE of my friends want to hear about anything CPA/CMA related. So I lecture to my dog. Poor CJ is CERTAIN I have lost my mind (and I'm starting to wonder). But saying stuff out loud and thinking about how you would teach it is key.

word on the street is that unless you can teach a concept you don't really understand it. Of course I get minimal feedback from my dog so who knows how well I'm teaching stuff. hahahhahaha
