I’m assuming there are people out there that have tried, has anyone been successful?

Per my research you may receive unemployment if you have “good cause” to leave your job, amongst some other things.

For those of you who have tried this what have you said/ not said?

Any input is appreciated, thanks for your help!

Shouldn't need to suckle off the Gooberment to complete the exam.

Plenty of people working stupid long hours in public who sacrifice what little time they have left to knock out the exams. Its all about coming up with a plan and sticking to it.

Not trying to be mean, but from the employer's perspective – when they look at your resume, what are you going to tell them?? I quit my job to fully concentrate on passing the CPA exam? If I were hiring, I'd think to myself: “Wow, if he can't multi-task, he is probably not a good fit for the job…” Not to mention that there are plenty of people like mla1169 who manage to work full time, have kids, and study for the exam at the same time………

    FAR: 81 (May 2013)
    BEC: 81 (July 2013)
    REG: 83 (August 2013)
    AUD: 82 (November 2013)
    California CPA since 1/30/14

At the end of the day, everyone needs to figure out for themselves what will lead to their successful completion of the exam without creating long term financial/career difficulties.

If you save up money and want to quit your job, then do so. If you can be supported by a spouse/family, then do so. If you are OK with eating ramen for a year straight, then do so.

But if you are taking taxpayer money to accomplish this, that just seems wrong to me.

    F- 7/13- 84
    R- 10/13- 79
    A- 11/13- 99
    B- 1/14- 86

This exam ALMOST defeated me back in 2006-2008, but I came back and WON!

^ *Correction: If you are OK with eating ramen for four months straight, then do so.

If you have no job, the goal should be an exam per month

I believe Citizens have right to demand for unemployment benefit, its something that a lot of citizens are relying on right now and OP might as well take advantage of it. I hate the fact that there is so much free-money running around in this economy, but if he deserves to have a fair share of the national cake, why not??

OP, if unemployment doesnt work out for you, try food stamps!

    REG -63│ 84!!
    BEC- 59│70│ 71 │78!
    AUD- 75!
    FAR- 87!

Of all the responses, I think I agree most with jlough.

Also, I don't think there is a reason for anyone to be hateful. Everyone's situation is different. Life is hard. The CPA exam is harder 😉
