Has anyone ever used a private tutor?

So right now I’m considering different options in terms of studying for FAR and private tutoring is one of those options. Has anyone used them, and if so how was the experience? How would you compare it to using review courses like Becker? I think having that real life interaction will help me with areas I struggle with since before now I’ve been studying independently and I’ve always struggled with the FAR material. If I don’t go for a tutor, I might look for a study group or study partner since I feel that might help too.

Hey David, I didn't know a private tutor for the CPA exam existed ? I would love to have one of those.

Study groups do help as you can motivate each other one on one. I am sure by using this forum you can post questions you have a hard time understanding and you will get responses from those that understand that subject better.

I am not going FAR right now otherwise would been happy to help you study for it. I will do FAR in Oct …

I haven't heard of private tutors either (probably a thing you've got to be in the right place at the right time!), but in general, I would say that having a tutor can be a very effective way to learn. The problem with textbooks and lectures is that they present things one way, which may or may not be the way that “clicks” for you – the great thing with a tutor or study-buddy is that they can present things in a different way that makes way more sense to you individually!

Also, though, like insiyah said, if you post questions on here, you can get feedback and perspectives from several people. Realize that we might be wrong, but we can at least provide another way of thinking about it! I've been “stalking” the FAR Study Group thread since taking my FAR exam in an effort to answer any questions that I can…and others do the same thing!
