Handling difficult topics?

How do you handle areas you are struggling to grasp on your first go through? For some reason I CANNOT get through converting accrual to cash for the Statement of Cash Flows today. I feel like I know the concepts until I start working problems. Even after reading through the explanation for why I did it wrong, its still not sinking in.

SO – what do you do when you get stuck? Re-write notes? Read over and over? Walk away? Bang your head on the desk? =0p

I’m going to write out the study text from CPAExcel in hopes it sticks… then walk away for a bit. From there I’m going to turn it into flash cards and go through those and/or read the notes over a few times before bed.

Just frustrated because I was hoping to cover more topics today than just this one.

Maybe try reading it from another text. Sometimes other authors can explain it a little better. I do have cliff notes for accounting I and II that I used in school and it helps when the review materials get too technical.

Cash Flow Statements can be tough. When I have trouble, I google it or pull out my old accounting text books. Sometimes, there are videos on youtube where people demonstrate accounting stuff. It helps me to see it versus just reading it.

I got frustrated with this topic as well. Didn't like Roger's explanation so I read the chapter in Wiley textbook and it helped!

Usually, it helps to re-read the chapter, or read a different textbook and re-do all the MCQ's again.

Writing out how to convert the different elements helped me find a different correlation than what CPAExcel was suggesting. Now to remember a couple things of what gets added and what gets subtracted from NI for the indirect method that I keep switching. =0)

Another go-round of exam questions went much better this time. Thanks for the tips – I never would've thought to look for youtube videos!
