Let me start off by saying that it’s not my intention to whine… I just want to figure out how people moved past their burnout point (whenever it was for you). It’s the end of summer, a sunny 75 degrees in Washington (totally gorgeous), and I haven’t put on a pair of flip flops all year. 2 exams down and 2 exams to go…

I thought the halfway point would be motivating! Exciting! Whoo -hoo! Over the hump… but not so. I’m obsessing more on the fact that it too me THIS long and I had to work THAT hard to get here… and I have to do it all over again?

What keeps you going? How do you regain your focus?

Sarah, you need to take a day off. If you haven't had your flip-flops on all summer, I'm guessing that means you haven't taken a day free to just enjoy the outdoors and relax. So, my prescription for your burnout is (assuming tomorrow's weather will be good) take tomorrow off, go to the park or the beach or for a walk, where those flip-flops, enjoy the weather, and don't look at your books/lectures/MCQs from when you wake up till when you go to bed. You've got at least 25 days till you could possibly be testing, so you can take a day off. Worst-case scenario, you change your exam schedule 1 day later to account for 1 day off studying, and really, in the bigger scheme of things, how much difference does 1 day make?

Personally I had to take a day off every week to keep my sanity, so kudos to you if you've been able to study all summer without taking time to step outside and enjoy the weather…but it's time to take a day to do so.

Just don't forget to plan something nice for yourself – recreationally. I just took 2 tests and literally haven't skipped a beat and I'm super burned out. I have done absolutely nothing other than work and study throughout the entire duration. I went from April 15th tax season – to one exam – to my second exam – to Oct 15th tax season without skipping a beat. I feel dead, totally dead. I'm not going to study or even think about studying again until Nov 1st, so I'm going to relax finally. Give yourself a week off, you're looking good on the 18- month timeline

Don't let burning out be an option or even a thought. I have both FAR and AUD passed with a 92 and 93 respectively. I took Audit on a Friday night at 4:30 pm. I woke up the next day on Saturday and did the whole chapter 1 of REG, granted it is extremely short compared to others. I want to be done with studying so bad that I'm addicted to it. I also REALLY want to be done studying by Thanksgiving to give myself a taste of real life before tax season starts in January. Seriously don't burn out now and then have to study over the holidays that would blow.

    FAR- 92 (7/25/2014)
    AUD- 93 (8/30/2014)
    REG- 93 (10/10/2014)
    BEC- 91 (11/10/2014)

Using Becker self-study only. Working full-time.

I've definitely had several daydreams about getting that final passing score…I'm just trying to harness it as motivation. Passing in Q4 is important, because you DON'T want to be studying over the holidays and going into busy season.
