    1. How long should I wait before doing a prep course? taking the exam?

    2. Last couple of semesters, kind of struggle with some of my accoounting course a couple of few B’s and C’s. I want to ask those who may not have had the strongest GPA coming out of an accoutning program how did you feel approaching the CPA exam. I am graduating from a school here in New Orleans who is known for its students passing the exam on the 1st try which may explain why the courses were so rigorious! Did this shake your confidence going into the exam? And of course of Im trying to figure out which prep course Becker or Yeager? Becker seems to be for those who pick up info fast and yaeger seems to cater to folks who need things broken down to the basics….Whats your take?

    Thanks!

I had mostly B and C's in accounting courses, except for tax(its my thing). I started studying like I did in college… it didn't work for me. I've never used Becker or Yaeger so I cannot help you there. A lot of the times you have to just find your own new way of studying for these exams. Good luck and welcome to this wonderful journey 😉

I use Becker and I could see where people might say that it is good for people who pick up on things fast because they leave a lot for you to fill in the blanks. I am just graduating this week and I've found that studying while in school has been hell but I wouldn't change my course of action if I had to do it again. I am still in the habit of remembering random facts and a lot of the material is quite fresh. I did very well in my class but what I can say is that do not be discouraged because a lot of the stuff that was very hard in class may now not be so hard. Plus the exam does go very in depth but there are still a few of the really tough topics that I know I struggled with in the various topics that weren't necessarily on the exam. Just blaze your own trail.. Everyone learns different so like little said, you gotta find what works for you.

Little: I envy your love for tax… I hate it.

It seems to be a trend, you either love audit or you love tax. I have to admit I'm on “team audit.”

Thanks ladies, I have picked up some review books and notice that some of questions are not that much more difficult than some of my past exams! I plan on studying in the fall as if I was going back to school and will schedule FAR in the last qtr of of this year. Now Im reviewing which prep program will work for me..I m leaning towards Yaeger due to the price, and the back to basics approach and plan to supplement it with review stuff…however the 0 financing loan for Becker is attempting but Im not sure if Becker is worth the thousands of dollars it will cost! For now I need to strategized how to study for this exam.

Hi there! Congratulations on graduating (well almost there)!! I've actually taken both review courses, Becker and Yaeger. I first went with Becker because it seems like everyone would talk about it in college. It was sooo pricey but I thought, it would be worth it…Wrong!! Becker didn't provide me with the details I needed! I also couldn't ask the professor all the questions I wanted because either there was so many people making line during class or schedule conflicts. The point is that Becker didn't work for me. It does work for some people, but it all depends on what type of learner you are. If you are a visual learner best course is Yaeger. I've been able to understand everything Yaeger teaches. He explains concepts in such a simpler way that makes you say “ohhh, that's what they were trying to say” if you ever run into any issues you can call Phil Yaeger directly on his phone! How cool is that? Lol that's the main reason why I ended up switching to Yaeger.

Also, I believe Yaeger offers a 0% Financing plan for their “at your pace” program.

Also, I started studying right away after college and my goal was to get my CPA within a year, but that didn't go as planned. Wasted a lot of time with Becker thinking something was wrong with me and not the highly priced review course that lacked the explanation I needed. Good luck and I'm sure you'll love Yaeger's review course because of the price and the qualify of their product.

Thank you so much Jazzy for that info! Will def look into Yaeger as Im thinking that may be more of my speed! Yeah a Becker rep practically lived on our campus with their monthly presentations, so Im sure they just about have everyone sold with their high marketing presence. It was as if you are guranteed to pass with them…I never heard of Yeager until a classmate mentioned 'em and I decided to look the company up on the web and now Im second guessing Becker, though I know quite a few folks who have used Becker and swear by their sucess, but I believe a few of these people, esp the ones witht the high GPA's could have done well any system.

    1. Just get going, b/c you will probably never have as much time as you do right after you graduate school. You'll be glad when you're done and that you started early. It is very painful trying to pass years later when you have more professional and personal responsibilities, and your accounting knowledge has diminished and the things you need to know have changed. I probably couldn't pass today if I had to take it now.

    2. Honestly, sample a little and pick one that you're okay with. It's probably more the discipline of making yourself study that will be more consuming than the actual material itself.

    Couldn't pass again!

Also, search for “CPA Review for Free.” It is a website that has a database of free practice questions. I used it for a change of pace when I started to memorize the questions in the Becker software from doing them so many times.

    REG - 87
    BEC - 81
    AUD - 80
    FAR - 81 AND DONE!!
