Getting scared. Almost feel like I should reschedule.

Here’s the current situation. I graduated back in December and began studying for FAR December 27th or so. I do not have a job so during this time I have spent a good amount of time studying but right now it is February 13 and my exam is scheduled for February 27.

I have only watched all the videos, gone back through the book and took notes from it and the NINJA notes, and now I am about one third of the way through multiple choice questions on Roger CPA Review and Wiley TB.

I just do not feel prepared at all. I go back a few chapters and don’t remember ANY of the material that I feel like a new just a few weeks ago, I just do not think I am spending enough time on each section.

The problem is I am just very behind and with other life issues such as recently totaling out my vehicle, my wife and I looking for a house in a different city and having to travel to that city tomorrow through Monday to try and find something and possibly get a house purchased I just can not stay motivated/focused enough to finish cramming the material in before the pending test date. On one hand since I am not working but just volunteering as a tax aide for 3 days a week for 6 hours or so I feel like it may be possible to pick it back up on Monday and cram the next 10 days on the rest of the material and possibly squeak by with a 75.

If you were in my shoes what would you do? =( Really need some advice, I know it is really a pathetic situation but sometimes us humans don’t always do the right thing.

How are you scoring on your MCQs? I'm taking FAR Feb 26th and there are many times, including today, where I feel like I need to move my test to April. I don't feel prepared at all, but I'm hoping to just push through over the next 13 days. I'm helping my parents move all weekend and I work full time during the week so my thought is that you can do this with the time you have left.

I'm doing pretty terrible on the MCQs. On Wiley TB I do 20 at a time and score probably 50% the first pass and normally takes me 5-6 passes to get a 75% or so. =/

I really feel like pushing it back would be terrible. If I could just shoot for 6-8 hours a day starting Monday I can definitely do this. Pushing it back is just the easy way out. I just need to get my s**t together and learn it.

I think if you can manage to devote practically ALL of your time to studying the next two weeks it's doable. It won't be easy, but I think if you can motivate yourself completely, anything is possible. Now I would just work on doing as many MCQ as possible, but making sure you understand why you got them wrong, not just trying to rush through. I'm right there with you, taking FAR 2/28 and I feel as unprepared as ever. But I think we can both get through it. Good luck!

Being scared and thinking you need to reschedule is a pretty normal part of the process, I think. I remember feeling the same way. There is just so much material to learn.

On the other hand, you can do a LOT of studying in 2 weeks. I don't know if anyone really walks in feeling 100% ready on exam day. Very few, if any. But if you study a whole bunch, and learn how to study more effectively, I bet that in 2 weeks you will feel waaaaay more prepared than you feel right now.

Seconding what someone else said, don't rush through the questions. Read it carefully, figure out what the key topic is, and think through a likely answer before you look at the options.

Think about it this way– if you put it off, you won't be able to take it again until April. If you take it when scheduled and don't pass, you won't be able to take it again until April. Either way, you're taking it in April. But if you study hard and effectively for the next 2 weeks, maybe you will pass. And then you'd be able to move onto the next one.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

If you wait until you feel prepared and like you have your shit together to sit for FAR you'll never sit for FAR. Lifes challenges aren't going away in fact they seem to snowball and get more intense as time goes by, so take a deep breath, get as much studying done as you can and go for it.

(Also if you think just looking at houses out of town is challenging, you're going to LOVE the actual purchase process, moving and homeownership. Your life is about to get infinitely more interesting.)
