Getting motivated again after you take a section

I sat for FAR on the 23rd and took a week off of studying and I’m having the hardest time getting motivated to study again. My plan was to start studying for BEC this week and to get through two chapters per week and sit for the test on the 3rd. But with the score release 4 days away and my brain still somewhat “fried” from FAR, I’m having a really hard time absorbing any of this information. I’ve gotten through the lecture for B1 and about 30% of the homework questions so far but nothing seems like it’s sticking. How do you guys get back into studying mode?

I’m tempted to move my test back to July 11th and only study lightly for B1 this week and then hopefully I can focus on my test, once I know my score for FAR. My dilemma is that I’m going to Italy for work for 10 days on July 12th and I still have to take Audit before my credit for REG expires on August 28th. I just really need my brain to make the switch from financial accounting to managerial accounting but so far, that has definitely not happened.

I had a hard time getting motivated again after FAR. I took AUD next and it was a relief because it was not as nearly as much information as FAR. That fact help me get motivated alot. It's definitely a struggle that's why my strategy is to book end the two hard test. The reason why is because motivation is high going into the CPA process and it's high again taking the LAST section. The two in the middle, the motivation is low which is matched against the material to cover in those sections.

    Motivation level = -71

    FAR - 71, 68, 74, (8/31/14) 78 ✔
    REG - 67, 71, 71, (10/18/14) 78 ✔
    BEC - (11/29/14) 86 ✔
    AUD - 73, (4/4/15) 86 ✔

I can't believe this is over! 2 years and 3 months..

” How do you guys get back into studying mode?”

Never get out of study mode. After taking FAR, I started studying for REG that evening. I didn't change my routine.

Imagine training your body to get up early to study for 2 months…then taking a week and sleeping in. It's so much harder that next day of getting up early after you've taken a week off.

I struggle with this. I have to take breaks after each section because I have to spend some quality time with my family before I get back into study mode. True, it's a choice I make, but I'm determined not to let this test affect my marriage any more than it has to and those breaks are important for that and for the time with my kids where mommy isn't stressed out. I can't go right into studying for the next one. I'm going into my last one now and the motivation isn't really there because it's also my least favorite topic. I just keep telling myself that I have to make it 6 more weeks and then it will be over.

CPA Exam - Finally DONE (November 2014)
    BEC (08/10/13) 80
    AUD (08/24/13) 65 (11/13/13) 85
    FAR (04/12/14) 81
    REG (07/19/14) 69 (11/29/14) 87!!

Yeah, starting back after a break is hard. I just force it for a while and fake some enthusiasm and the real thing takes over before too long.

I also have to take a break in between sections. I am way too prone to letting stress take over my life and my marriage to study nonstop for months on end. It's also even harder right now because the sun is shining and its 80 degrees outside…I keep praying for a rainy day haha. Well, maybe I'll lightly study for B1 this week and hope to gain some motivation after score release and get into B2. This is a retake so maybe it will come back to me more easily…fingers crossed.

I was really discouraged by FAR so that's partly why I feel so unmotivated- I have this horrible feeling I will have to retake it and then will probably lose credit for REG because passing three sections in one window would be really, really hard since the summer is also my busiest time at work. Oh well, even I lose REG its not game over- oddly, REG was my favorite section so it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
