I have taken the BEC (74!) and I am scheduled to take it again as well as FAR. I am seriously considering canceling the exams because of a consistent poor showing on the practice exams through Wiley that I am taking. I have used Yaeger for my review, and have gone through the lectures twice for BEC and once for FAR in the past two months. It feels like I am missing a fundamental understanding of the concepts for both of these sections while taking the practice exams, wherein I am presented questions for which I feel I have no basis on which to even guess at a correct answer. This feeling is pervasive through all level of questions, from the rudimentary to the advanced.
I am concerned that I may have a case of early-onset Alzheimer’s, or, more likely, I am afraid that the study material I have been using (Yaeger and Wiley) is inadequate for the level of understanding that I personally require for passing the exam.
1. I know the study options are myriad, but I would like to know if anyone is willing to offer a suggestion for a course of self study that will not just “get me passed”, but get me educated and provide a good fundamental base for not only the exam, but also the accounting practice. (Note: my undergrad was from a reputable university, but I am noticing that in more cases than not, my exposure to accounting concepts seemed to be focused toward passing the class as opposed to succeeding in subsequent exams).
2. I have considered digging into and reading the entire codification for enlightenment. Has anyone tried this approach? Is it worth it?
