I was laid-off so I am focusing on the CPA exam full-time. I finished the REG videos Friday and and I am thinking about starting the videos for FAR while continuing to do REG questions and notes every day. I will then focus completely on REG about a week before the exam on 10/1. Is anyone else studing full-time? If so, what are your goals today? How many sections are you studying for?

Are you working full-time? I start early October and will begin my review before then. My only worry is that I will forget certain material while training in New York City.

Training for Big 4 is exhaustive during the day and filled with networking at night so studying won't be an option then.

I work full time. I study mainly in the evenings and on weekends. But for some reason it's easier for me during the week to study. I get lazy on the weekends.

How long is your training for?

hi nick, yes i worked at big four also, trained at nyc, you basically won't be able to get any study done then. all networkings at night.

Looks like I may be delaying then as well.. Training starts second week of October for me in the city. I didn't realize that every night would be a networking event.

Ok, well the game plan is to push through the material until start date as well as start reviewing. Use my surgery last week as an excuse to reschedule w/o a fee for the end of October. That'll leave me an additional two weeks at the end of October to study.

I'm sure I'll be able to review a bit on phone during down time at training as well. Maybe Becker flashcards then.

Does this sound like a good idea to you guys?

    Starting F8 tomorrow as well.

@Garion – Yep. I am hoping to get three done this testing window. Take REG 10/1, FAR in early November and BEC right before Thanksgiving. How's REG studying going for you?

@OnMyWay732 – I thought the section overlap might be a benefit. I'm starting to get anxious about REG anyway so I am definitely focusing on it exclusively.

@umkcfuturecpa – Cool! Your plan worked. How long have you been unemployed?

@Hustle… Struggling mightily!!! Carefully planned but not so much on the execution.

I was not motivated after the Labor Day holiday not getting the mojo back until this past weekend. I was/am spent after 8 straight weeks of FAR and BEC. Things are better now just way behind due to the missing mojo and tax content.

R 1-4 have been a bit rough as tax is really not my thing. Thought I would be through R3 & R4 the other night but… not so much. Hoping to be done with them tonight and that R 5-8 are similar to the latter sections in FAR & BEC… I flew through those and am hoping to do so in REG by the end of the weekend so I can still take the exam on the 1st.

Sims have been a wake up call!!! Thought about getting Ninja Sims to supplement. Feedback tells me there are lots of points to be won or lost.

    You?

@Garion, I feel pretty good. I am following the NINJA method and froze when I started doing the MCQ, but last night I saw a post by Iggy1985 that got me back on track. I cranked through 220 MCQs today! Iggy1985 suggested doing an “initial assessment” of 10 MCQs per section to help determine your weak (< 70%) areas. The first goal is to get a 70% in each area and then work towards getting 80% in each area. Tomorrow I will work on getting a few of the sections to 70% by doing more MCQs and rewriting notes. I definitely feel more focused.

@ Hustle… That's awesome… Pushing through the MCQ's a couple of times usually makes it click. Good to know Ninja helps you focus on weak areas. Some how finished 140 MC's today along with 5 Becker sims. Good progress but still have about 200 MC's to finished R3 & R4. Hope to finish up tomorrow.

Glad you got the focus back… and now back to work.

@_nick_ I also start Big 4 october 1st with training for one and a half weeks. My last section is also FAR. Had to register to reply since we were in an identical situation. Passed all 3 parts on the first try and I hope to do the same with FAR, am currently on F5

I agree with the others mixing REG and FAR would be bad as one is mainly cash basis and one is accrual, it will complicate things

    FAR - 71, 68, 74, (8/31/14) 78 ✔
    REG - 67, 71, 71, (10/18/14) 78 ✔
    BEC - (11/29/14) 86 ✔
    AUD - 73, (4/4/15) 86 ✔

I can't believe this is over! 2 years and 3 months..
