    Hi all,

I am writing here because I don’t want to feel like I am the only one going though this….

I am a 32-year-old male guy who started studying for the CPA exam in July 2013 and today, March 27, 2014, I am studying for my last exam: BEC. I am hoping to pass it by the end of May 2014.

I love going to the gym and I ought to say that what drives me into getting this done done is the fact that once I will be a CPA I will finally have free nights to go back to the gym. Meanwhile, I just can’t…. I need 8 hours of sleep to function properly. Then I go to work at 9am and stay sat down at my desk until 8pm. Then drive back to home and sit down at my home desk to study for the CPA until midnight. This caused me to gain weight. I do not know my current weight, but I know that I had to buy new suit pants because size 32 looks like a kids size to me now! I recently bought 4 new pairs of size 36 pants and those are now fitting my belly, which is now grossly sticking out…

Is anybody else in my same situation? I am considering a starvation diet since anything that I eat. even a tiny meal, magically transforms into additional adipose tissue!!!! I am so gross!!!!!

I just want to cuddle with my cat forever, then sleep and never wake up! I feel so nasty!

No, I need to get this done because once I am done I will look awesome again!!

But then I will also be older and I will not be able to lose weight as fast as I used to….

Maybe I should try cat food… it may make me lose weight!

    I am turning mental!

    CPA exam, I hate you!!!!

I haven't gained any weight due to 2 reasons…1) Every morning I go to Crossfit right when I wake up…I'm there warming up before I even quite realize that I'm not in bed anymore and 2) there is nothing in my house to eat that will make me gain weight. I am super lucky with a very understanding husband…he gets me to crossfit in a half comatose state and refuses to purchase any food for the house that's not Paleo approved. I pack a lunch (some of the Paleo approved stuff) so that I can study during that hour at work. At night it's usually a piece of meat on the grill along with a salad.

I gain weight super easy and am very depressed when I do. I think the exercise keeps me feeling happy and one hour less of studying a day isn't going to make a huge difference (at least not on the timeframe I'm on) and it also keeps me in the right mindframe to be effective when studying.

    FAR - 93 (YAY!!!!)
    REG - 93 (Double YAY!)
    BEC - 87 (Whew!)
    AUD - 96 (DONE!!!!!)

Glad I'm not the only one. I weight less than 100 lbs before studying for the CPA. I've gained 26 lbs in a year.. I almost cry when my husband told me that his siblings were asking him “what's wrong with me?” refering to my dramatic weight gain..

And one day my dad just stare at me and shout out “why are you so fat now”. Definitely hurt when your family just don't seem to understand the sacrifice I made for this.

I thank god it's finally over and I start going back to the gym and have lost about 4 lbs so far. So I'm done with the CPA journey but my weight lost journey has just begun..

    AUD - 77 11/2012
    FAR - 83 07/2013
    REG - 86 08/2013
    BEC - 80 11/2013

    Ethic - 90 02/2014

I've also gained about 10 lbs since i started studying. It may not seem much but this is the heaviest I've ever been. Since I weighed myself about a month ago I've ditched taking lunch and instead go to the gym in my building for a 45 min workout and eat at my desk when i come back. Nike training app really wears you out and ever since then I've also stopped the junk food and my coffee intake has slowed down. I can really say that it's making a difference in my clarity and my study time.

    FAR: 80 (Aug 2013)
    AUD: 91 (Nov 2013)
    BEC: 79 (Feb 2014)

Thank you all for sharing! I am sitting in my office with my full snack drawers and wondering why I'm in my fat pants. I'm a stress eater, so I'm trying to snack on carrots and hummus and apples – lots of crunchy things to get my jaw working. I'm taking lots of magnesium and B vitamins to help with the stress and test anxiety. I eat at the office so hubby won't see the sheer quantity of food I eat. I'm also going through menopause (TMI) and that severely slows down your metabolism and shuts down most of your brain. I've given up weighing myself. Oh joy 🙂

As my dearest hubby says, it's only a test, it's not chemotherapy.

    AUD 88 (expired), 80 retake
    FAR 64,69,67,73,67,73,73,73, August 3
    REG 75 (expired) September 7
    BEC 72, 77

    The adventure continues...

CPA Exam weight resluts = 30+ lbs. I started out at a healthy 220 lbs, and am currently pushing 255 lbs. I was waking up early to work out (P90X), and was looking at training for a half marathon. Hopefully I will finish this journey at the end of May with FAR, and get back my life. My goal will be to shed the 30+ lbs in a matter of 3-4 months, and get back to working my way down to the 205-210 lb range. Having this much weight makes me feel horrible, and it's not just diet. I am one of those that can only loose wieght by working it off while eating healthy, and not by diet alone.

Let's set a goal everyone! An easy goal should be running the Turkey Trot 5K in 2014!

    CPA EXAM: DONE!!!!
    Ethics Course: Passed
    Application Mailed: 3/16/15
    Professional Conduct Exam: 97
    Certification Date: 4/2/15!!!

Hey OP and everyone else in this topic, I'm here to give you advice and you can choose whether to take it or not. I actually lost 70 lbs in the past 1.5 years and although I am actively bodybuilding, I realized that diet is the key. You can still lose that weight by just making small changes to your diet without ever stepping foot on a treadmill. Replace soda with the diet alternative (less calories), eat grilled chicken over a bed of lettuce with low fat dressing instead of a sandwich. A healthy diet will also make you feel good and give you energy to study.

    BEC - 79
    AUD - 7/22/15
    REG - 8/31/15
    FAR - Sometime in November

It's funny you posted this today. This morning while getting dressed for work, I decided that I was over it. I feel my body changing in the past couple of months that I've been studying and not for the best. When I got to work, I printed out the Gleim outlines since they're easier to read at a glance. Starting tomorrow, I plan on doing 20 – 30 minutes on the bike or on the stairs at least 3 times a week while reading my Gleim outline or my notes. Those are the only machines in my gym that I think I can actually read while working out. It's going to be hard because the late night cram sessions have me feeling like death when I wake up, but having my body feeling the way it feels really isn't helping either.
