    Hi all,

I am writing here because I don’t want to feel like I am the only one going though this….

I am a 32-year-old male guy who started studying for the CPA exam in July 2013 and today, March 27, 2014, I am studying for my last exam: BEC. I am hoping to pass it by the end of May 2014.

I love going to the gym and I ought to say that what drives me into getting this done done is the fact that once I will be a CPA I will finally have free nights to go back to the gym. Meanwhile, I just can’t…. I need 8 hours of sleep to function properly. Then I go to work at 9am and stay sat down at my desk until 8pm. Then drive back to home and sit down at my home desk to study for the CPA until midnight. This caused me to gain weight. I do not know my current weight, but I know that I had to buy new suit pants because size 32 looks like a kids size to me now! I recently bought 4 new pairs of size 36 pants and those are now fitting my belly, which is now grossly sticking out…

Is anybody else in my same situation? I am considering a starvation diet since anything that I eat. even a tiny meal, magically transforms into additional adipose tissue!!!! I am so gross!!!!!

I just want to cuddle with my cat forever, then sleep and never wake up! I feel so nasty!

No, I need to get this done because once I am done I will look awesome again!!

But then I will also be older and I will not be able to lose weight as fast as I used to….

Maybe I should try cat food… it may make me lose weight!

    I am turning mental!

    CPA exam, I hate you!!!!

Jeff- I think there may be a market here for some rebranded maternity clothing. Maybe market them as CPA study pants?

Sadly in the same boat… I've never been in fantastic shape, but the CPA has seriously limited my time. The gym I just joined is opening in May, and I'll (hopefully) be done with FAR in April. I'm sure I'll be motivated once I'm done with the beast.

Yes, I am gaining weight too and am not happy about it. I'm not working out as much and I'm eating for comfort because I'm so stressed. I've come to accept that I will just work on getting the weight off when I am done. Good luck to you- you aren't alone!

    FAR- 85 I'm DONE!
    BEC- 75
    REG- 60,60,75
    AUD- 74,74,83

CPAExcel used for BEC, AUD, REG
Exam Matrix used for FAR plus NINJA Blitz, cpareviewforfree and a little CPAExcel

This is not to be all high and mighty, only in my first exam and I know how hard it is to balance everything. Lately I found myself sliding down the same hole and just felt disgusting. Not so much from a weight perspective but I felt slow and lacked energy. During the last week I've been squeezing in 15 minutes of daily cardio, and trying to work on my diet. The exercise is much less than I used to do, and it's so hard to study without the snacks and caffeine, but the cardio and diet have helped me to sleep better (not just in hours, but better quality sleep) and my studying has become more efficient. I honestly believe that a 15-30 minute investment daily + diet will not only keep my weight in control but also allow me to get more out of the hours I spend sleeping and studying. At the very least it will reduce the stress that we all feel from this horrible exam…

    MBA,CMA,CPA, CFF?, ABV?

I gained 25 pounds in four months during my internship. The 9,10,11 hours a day sedentary. The catered (rarely healthy) dinners. The bottomless ice cream sandwiches in the breakroom fridge. The stress.

I lost all of it during the following summer (during which I was totally unobligated and could take daylong hikes and the like) but still.

I discovered in grad school (and am continuing this practice with CPA review) that breaking up large study sessions with exercise is a great thing. Even if it's just doing pushups, crunches and/or jumping jacks to a good beat for 15 minutes. Gets the mental juices flowing again. Sort of a palate cleanser.
