I have yet to embarked on my journey but am doing as much learning as I can about this exam so that I can best prepare myself for what is to come.

I have a full time job, a 19 month old, and have to use my time very diligently. I also only have enough finances to take each part once. With that being what methods have you used to stay focus? I am planning to use Jeff’s ELL to balance things but am worried about the lack of focus and the reality that if I fail one part I wont be able to take it for a while as cash flow is low at the moment.

Any help of feedback would be great appreciated.

I wonder how many people can pass the CPA exam while losing 40lbs.

Really don't need research skills. I prematurely posted my comments. Thanks for doing the research for me though, as I see the book comes in all kinds of format. I guess I'll get to read on my ne w kindle. :-))

    It begins with a 75

I have a word document that I open on my other screen with my top 3 reasons for studying.

    Number 1:Wife and daughter.

When I pass, my family will benefit.

My key to staying focused was making myself accountable through either the study groups here, or through family and friends.

I would set a schedule of all the things I would want to get done every day study wise and I would have people hold me to that schedule. I made sure to get through every multiple choice question that I wanted to or every slide that I had down for that day. There were many days were I would be absolutely exhausted. You just have to keep pushing.

    REG 07/02/13 - 87

It hit me halfway through my studying that almost a year had gone by and I had missed out on so much. Time spent with friends, family, myself, etc. I missed investing my time into something that wasn't this damned CPA exam. And I noticed that I was getting very tired. When I got that 74 in REG, I was crushed. Not because I failed, but because I felt that the time I invested and sacrificed for this exam wasn't worth and that I'd have to invest and sacrifice another month or two all over again.

I only started getting the right mindset in when I truly put in everything I had to offer and still failed.

You get desperate and start appreciating the small things in life, but most importantly you gain a profound understanding of time.

    FAR: 50, 76!
REG: 74... (ouch baby, very ouch), 76!
    AUD: 65, 91!?
    BEC: 80! Aaaand doneskies!

    May 2012 to August 2013. Can't believe it's over.

I am with inferno… I put so much time into this exam that I now have no desire to waste time watching TV and things like that now that I am done. I learned how precious my time is throughout that process. And to waste it by doing other things that prolonged the studying or caused a failing score was tough. Once I got to the point where I wanted to do nothing else but study in my free time… that is when I passed. It is easy to get distracted, but the spoils of war do not go to the lazy. They go to the person who prepared and sacrificed. Success is 90% effort and 10% luck/skill.

@studylongUstudywrong I will have to make a list and print it out as well….Funny we have the same #1 🙂

@InfernoOmni yea I can't afford to lose any time because i really appreciate time with my family and thats part of the reason why i am forcing myself mentally to think that I only have one chance. I dont want to be forced to learn your lesson first hand but rather learn from your experience.

I break everything down for the day by section and allot a certain amount of time to get each section done. That holds me accountable for staying focused and I waste less time getting distracted, which is such an easy thing to do when studying for these exams.

    - passed all 4 exams on my first try using Becker!

    Ethics: TBD
